Things are happening simultaneously, so I broke this journal entry into three components/priorities.
Priority 1: The Proposal (creation component)
I sent a proposal (embedded on the left) to a business called Botantical Brush that I met with in late September in order to brainstorm designs and get some feedback. Included within the PDF is a tentative plan to finalize a design by October 24 and finish the mural by the first week of November (just in time for our EMC SDA). While I waited for a response, I started researching how to actually paint on a wall, since that is something I need to have figured out.
*I researched on what to include in a mural proposal using an artist I found on YouTube whom I respect- I Am Detour. Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1OJW5zQhJBE*
Priority 2: How to Paint on a Wall (research component)
Supplies Required:
Step Ladder (maybe an actual ladder, probably not)
Plastic to cover the floor or drop cloth
Primer - Kilz 2 All Purpose or Latex Egg Shell Paint
Buy latex paint for any large color sections
Paint Roller
Paint Trays
Paint mixing sticks (for large quantities)
Blue Tape (usefull!)
Large Brushes
Rags
Paint containers w/ flip caps (can make large quantity of one color)
Acrylic Paint - Golden Fluid Acrylics (recommended)
Side walk chalk (to sketch)
Latex X-tender (increase time is takes for paint to dry)
Bucket
Steps:
1) Tape up sides of the wall (if needed)
2) Prime the wall using roller
2) Sketch using a chalk - use wet rag to wipe away errors
3) Go in and start painting
Other notes
things look very different up close, so make sure to keep going far and looking at the piece
tape can be usefull for corners and straight lines
print out your concept sketch and tape it to the wall so you have something to reference
have a bucket with water and another bucket with x-tender to help with paint consistency
Priority 3: Making a video on the process (future planning component)
For the next journal, I will focus on documenting what I have done so far in terms of design and approval, so that I keep my social media accounts up to date. By then I will have a clearer direction on where this process is going and things will be progressing faster.
