Join us on Wednesday, September 17th!

Counselors are hosting College and Career Night on 9/17! We will kick off the night at 5:30pm in the Theater. Students and families of ALL grade levels are welcome to attend!

Counselors will present some essential college and career info and families will then have their choice of over 15 different informational breakout sessions with college/career reps. We will have two 30-minute sessions from 6-7:15.

We will have college admission presentations, financial aid and scholarship presentations and sessions featuring community college and transfer opportunities. We will also have military representatives and sessions featuring skilled trade programs, entry level healthcare careers, careers in law enforcement, and more! See below for session descriptions.

After the sessions conclude, reps will be avaialble for up to 30 minutes to answer individual questions. You can either ask follow up questions or visit the reps you weren't able to see during the sessions.

Breakout Info Sessions

Students and families will be able to attend two 30-minute breakout info sessions. Choose from the following:

Financial Aid: Learn all about financial aid (grants, loans, work study, etc.) from a college financial aid advisor. This session will also cover how to apply for financial aid through the FAFSA/CADAA. Highly recommended for juniors and seniors!

Scholarships: Interested in earning free money for college? Learn all about where to find scholarships and how to apply, along with some great tips! It’s never too early to start applying!

Deep Dive Into College Admissions: Learn how to stand out in the college admissions process! We’ll discuss various college systems, their requirements, and talk about how you can maximize your time in high school to prepare for college. We will cover UC vs CSU vs Private and Out-of-State applications.

San Diego State University/Cal State Apply: Learn about the admission requirements, programs, and opportunities available at SDSU. Information will also be provided about Cal State Apply and how to apply to the CSU system.

UC San Diego: Learn about the admission requirements, programs, and opportunities available at UC San Diego. Gain insight into UCSD and the UC admission requirements as a whole.

University of San Diego & Point Loma Nazarene University: Learn about San Diego’s two premier private universities. Both USD and PLNU offer a range of majors and opportunities. Learn about the requirements to apply and the unique benefits and experience these private universities have to offer.

Out-of-State Universities/Penn State: Are you thinking about applying out of state? Come learn from our Penn State rep about the many exciting opportunities available outside of CA, how to apply and stand out, and more.

California State University, San Marcos: Learn about the admission requirements, programs, and opportunities available at Cal State San Marcos. Information will also be covered about the guaranteed admission opportunity available to GUHSD students!

Dual and Concurrent Enrollment: Make the most of earning college credit in high school! Learn about the process, benefits, and responsibilities of earning early college credit and how to plan courses to benefit your future.

Community College: Come meet our Cuyamaca reps and learn all about the opportunities available at community college. Learn about programs, transfer options, and free tuition through the Promise.

U.S. Military: Come meet with our Army, Marines, and Air Force recruiters, as they share about the benefits and career opportunities available through enlisting in the US Armed Forces after high school.

Career Trends and Resources- Are you wondering what careers or major to pursue? Curious about market trends and what career fields are growing? Interested about AI and its impact on the workforce? Come learn more and discover how to search for the right career for you!

Grossmont Health Occupations Center: Are you interested in a career in healthcare and want to start working as soon as possible? Grossmont Health Occupations Center offers programs that will prepare you to work as a CNA, EMT, Dental Assistant, Veterinary Tech, Pharmacy Tech, and more!

San Diego Sheriff’s Department: Are you interested in a career in law enforcement? Come learn from the San Diego Sheriff’s Department about how to enter this exciting career field.

San Diego Fire Department: Come learn from the San Diego Fire Department about what it takes to become a firefighter. Learn about the training, challenges, benefits, and day-to-day of this rewarding career.

Skilled Trade Programs: Have you considered a career in the trades (construction, welding, HVAC, etc.)? Come learn about two programs here in San Diego that offer great opportunities and training in these fields, Associated General Contractors and Pacific Rim Mechanical.

Western States Carpenters Apprenticeship: Interested in the building and construction trades? Learn about the benefits of an apprenticeship program, where you can get paid while you work and get trained. Fields include: carpentry, drywall, flooring, cabinetmaking, insulation, and more!
