Hearts and Hands
Greetings Hawks,
Last time I wrote to you we were about to go to Teachers' Convention. The learning at convention was excellent and I had the good fortune to hear Chief Cadmus Delorme speak. Within his presentation he commented that an Elder once told him that, "You have to show people your heart before you ask them to hold your hand". I thought, how true is that and it was a reminder of the type of vulnerability it takes to create relationships with others.
The relationships we create with others will support us as we roll into the second half of the school year and start thinking about the finish line! I know that our grade twelves are thinking about it! For our grade seven and ten students and parents we are still asking that you complete the assurance survey (see your email for details). If you know one, please remind them to do it. It is our way of see your heart so that we can better ask for your hand.
Finally, thank you for the vulnerability you show in sharing your children with us! We appreciate it! Enjoy the weekend!
Respectfully,
Justin Klaassen
Collegiate is on the Move!
At the most recent School Council meeting I presented on new developments in our Collegiate journey! You may have seen paint and flagging in the field in front of the school as we prepare to put in foundations for our addition with the hopes of having the building start in August and opening date in Fall 2025.
With a bit of time before opening we are formalizing our plans for the program and starting to develop partnerships with industry. We had an excellent meeting with Rob Calver who is a Strategic Engagement and Development Director for Building Trades of Alberta and explored several exciting opportunities! Stay tuned for more information.

What’s this all about?
Are you a rural Alberta high school student living in Central or Southern Alberta, interested in a helping profession or working in a health career after high school? Could a rural nursing career be in your future? Join us for an interactive, virtual conversation with post-secondary institutions and current students to explore the path to nursing careers (HCA/LPN/RN) in rural Alberta.
When?
Date: Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2024
Time: 6 p.m. – 8 p.m.
Who will be there?
Instructors and faculty from Lethbridge College, Medicine Hat College, and Red Deer Polytechnic, as well as students currently studying in these programs can share first-hand experiences with you and why they are considering rural practice in their future!
Who can attend?
Parents/teachers/school counselors/division reps from schools in rural communities
Rural students in Grades 9 – 12
What will I learn about?
The difference between various nursing professions
What post-secondary institutions are near me and what programs are available
How to start preparing now for a future college/university application
What rural nursing could offer
… and bring your questions for a Q&A at the end!
How can I register?
Follow the registration link here! How Do I Get There? - Nursing - Post-secondary Pathways Registration, Wed, 28 Feb 2024 at 6:00 PM | Eventbrite
What should I do if registration is full?
Don’t worry – we’ve got room for you! If this happens, ensure you add yourself to the waiting list. While our Eventbrite registration capacity is limited, we can accommodate up to 500 people at the event and a Zoom link will be sent directly to the e-mail provided on the waiting list if we “sell out” on Eventbrite.
Will this session be recorded?
We do record these sessions (any student names or pictures will be edited out before sharing and only the speakers will be visible). This being said, the recording may not be immediately available and this is your best opportunity to come ask your questions in person and get this great information right away.
