Principal's Message

Happy Friday!  It finally appears as if fall has arrived.  I hope everyone has enjoyed the great weather so far in October.  A huge thank you goes out to Mrs. Jason for her hard work in planning our CSS Awards night last week.  Quarter two starts on November 14.  Junior High CTF option descriptions will be sent out next week.  Students will choose their options before the November break.  Good luck to our high school volleyball teams who are playing in Beaumont this weekend!

CSS Awards Night

Congratulations to all the recipients who received academic awards on the evening of October 12, 2022, during the annual Awards Night.  Thank you to all the students and their families for attending.  Thank you to the local businesses/organizations who sponsored the awards for students.  It was a grand evening!

CSS School Council

Please welcome our new School Council executive:

Ginger Hassett-Koza – Chair

Cheryl TeRietstap – Vice Chair

Sheena Schipperheijn – Secretary

School council is a great place to learn what is going on at the school, with the school board and even with education at the provincial level. Each meeting will include reports from our principal and board trustee. The rest of the agenda is open for business that we (parents/guardians) feel is pertinent to discuss in order to support and enhance student learning. Some common topics include school fees and budget, programs and options offered in the school, extra curriculars, attendance procedures, bullying issues, services to improve student learning, technology, cell phone policies, school calendar, hours of operation, school celebrations, provincial achievement results, diploma exams, report cards, transportation, safety issues, etc. What we may not do at school council is discuss complaints about specific staff or students.

Did you know that all parents/guardians of students enrolled at Calmar Secondary are automatically members of school council and are welcome to attend meetings and have a say? My goal as chair of school council is to engage as many parents/guardians as possible to properly capture and represent the parent perspective. The more participants we have at school council, the more ideas and opinions we will hear, and the more effective we will be in our advisory role to the principal, board and province…which all leads to great things for our kids’ education and futures. Feel free to contact me at 780-554-0643 or css.council@gshare.blackgold.ca with any questions, comments, ideas or concerns.
