WHO ARE THE INDIGENOUS PEOPLE?
Indigenous tribes are culturally distinct ethnic groups whose members have directly descended from the earliest known inhabitants of a particular geographic region.
People are usually described as “Indigenous” when they maintain traditions or other aspects of an early culture that is associated with the first inhabitants of a given region.
Not all Indigenous people share this characteristic, as many have adopted substantial elements of a colonizing culture, such as dress, religion or language.
Indigenous peoples’ homelands have historically been colonized by larger ethnic groups, who have justified colonization with beliefs of racial and religious superiority, land use or economic opportunity.
Thousands of Indigenous nations throughout the world are currently living in countries where they are not a majority ethnic group. Indigenous people continue to face threats to their sovereignty, economic well-being, languages, means of traditional knowledge, and access to the resources on which their cultures depend. In order to safeguard their interests, the United Nations, the International Labor Organization, and the World Bank have set forth indigenous rights in international law.

ONE TRIBE
-------------------------
One tribe
One tribe we all belong,
One tribe that sings the eternal song.
One tribe that merrily sings of leaves and trees,
One tribe that hears the music of the breeze.
When thin morning mist drifts over the trail,
And forests fade away the darker veil.
When birds start with their daily crafts,
And men ride the stream on their sturdy rafts.
Then all the cobwebs that darken the wall,
All that causes the dwindling dreams to fall.
Begin to appeal for the final chemistry,
As our spirits hear the echoes of mystery-
The eternal resonance of brotherhood and ancestry.
One tribe we all belong,
One tribe to dance to the final song.
