The Navajo Tribe, independent of the US, lives in the Navajo Nation which has its independent judiciary, legal system and control over its land. They are not a part of the United Nations, but they take part in treaties and agreements to protect, preserve and expand indigenous people and their culture.

The Cherokee are North American Indians of Iroquoian lineage. They are one of the largest politically integrated tribes from the 14th-17th century. Their name is derived from a Creek word meaning 'people of different speech'. They are found in present day Georgia, eastern Tennessee and the western parts of North Carolina and South Carolina.

Around 1750, the Seminoles started to resettle into northern Florida and in 1957, the U.S. Congress officially honoured them as an Indian Tribe. The Miccosukee Tribe of Indians of Florida was formed by those who chose not to join the newly formed Seminole Tribe. The Seminole Tribe of Florida has nearly 3000 members living on six reservations across the promontory Hollywood (formerly Dania), Big Cypress, Brighton, Fort Pierce, Immokalee, and Tampa.

The Ojibwe stretch from present- day Ontario in eastern Canada to Montana. Oral traditions of the Ojibwe, Ottawa, and Potawatomi assert that at one time all three lines were one people who lived at the woe of Mackinac. From there, they resolve off into three different groups. Verbal, archaeological, and literal. Substantiation suggests that the three lines do indeed descend from a common ethnical origin. The Ojibwe call themselves" Anishinaabeg," which means the" True People" or the" Original People." Other Indians and Europeans called them" Ojibwe" or" Chippewa," which meant" puckered up," presumably because the Ojibwe traditionally wore moccasins with a puckered confluence across the top.

The Aztecs were the first major civilization to settle in early Mexico. This powerful civilization came to power around 1200 A.D. and spread to cover the central and southern regions of Mexico through the 15th and 16th centuries. Their empire stretched from the Gulf of Mexico to Guatemala. Mexico City is the current capital of Mexico and is where the ruins of Tenochtitlan, the Aztec capital city, are located. They had a very advanced city, with aqueducts, farms, and an advanced system of trade. The main city, on an island, had many man-made areas that served as farms.

The Aztecs were the most advanced tribe at the time of their downfall. They were famous for building large pyramids in their cities and for a luxury drink called Xocolatl (made from cocoa seeds). They were defeated by the Spanish conquistador Hernan Cortes in 1521.
The Lumbee people are located in North Carolina in Robeson, Hoke, Cumberland, and Scotland Counties. In recent years, they've moved as far north as Baltimore, Maryland.
The Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina have no confirmed links to other tribes, though they claim to be related to many in the United States.

The Lumbee have tried to gain federal recognition for a long time. Although they were recognized by North Carlina in 1885, the United States government refused to consider their claim. Finally, in 1956, Congress passed legislation recognizing the tribe, but the bill included an unfair addition that denied the Lumbee benefits that every other federally-recognized tribe received.
One of the things you should learn from the Lumbee tribe is that there are still Indigenous people and tribes fighting for recognition in the United States. There are almost four hundred U.S. tribes that aren’t federally recognized! The Lumbee have claimed to be Cherokee, Croatan, Siouan, Cheraw, Tuscarora, and other tribes, but they haven’t proven the relationship between them. Instead of trying to prove the relation when they're challenged, the Lumbee will abandon the claim and say they are related to someone else. The Cherokee and Choctaw tribes say that they should get recognition from the Office of Federal Recognition as their own separate tribe. That office has people who can investigate Indigenous ancestors. Unfortunately, they may not be the most reliable tribe, and that is working against them.

THE MAYANS

Mesoamerican Indians, known as the Maya, created one of the most advanced civilizations in the Western Hemisphere between AD 250 and 900. By the year 200 AD, they had built towns with palaces, temples, plazas, and ball fields. They invented sculpting and relief carving and used stone tools to quarry the enormous amounts of stone needed for those projects.

The Mayans were an advanced culture and society. They created many things and were a large territory in North and Central America. It's impressive that they built more than 60 cities! They had one ruler per city, so that is more than 60 rulers who worked together to keep the culture strong. The Mayans created calendars, writing systems, farming methods, and sports, and they had a complex religion with many gods. The Mayans believed that their rulers were given power by the gods to protect people. The Mayans left behind lots of architectural ruins and art when their power came to an end.
Mayan inscriptions and books still contain hieroglyphic writing. Mayan astronomy used a very accurate solar year and precise tracking of Venus and Moon positions. Mayan mathematics used positional notation, and they understood the concept of zero. The intricate rituals and ceremonies of the Mayan religion, which was founded on a belief in many gods, depended on an accurate calendar. Human sacrifice, torture, and ritualized bloodletting were all ways of “pleasing” the gods.

The Wampanoag eat nassamap for breakfast. They cook and prepare their food outdoors, over an open fire. They are known for their incredible woodworking. The children do a lot of work to help out the other people in the tribe.
The goal of learning about new cultures is to understand different people and what they went through or might be going through right now. If you don't know anything about indigenous tribes or indigenous people, then you can't talk about how things affect them. So, it is important to know about different cultures.
THE MONACAN TRIBE

The Monacan Tribe has a problem, a big one. The JRWA wants to put a power plant on their burial grounds. To make matters even worse, the JRWA lied to the Monacan tribe by telling them that there was no other spot to build. In reality, there were thirteen or fourteen other places to use. It was extremely unfair to treat an indigenous tribe this way. Everybody should know what the Monacan had to go through and they they distrust the American government. It is so wrong for people to mistreat others because of cultural differences. They are people just like us! They are just people trying to live their lives. People should just leave them alone and let them be happy.

One thing about the Algonquin people that we can learn from is that they would hold a Sunrise Ceremony to celebrate girls becoming women. This ceremony is held at dawn around a sacred fire that was kept burning throughout the night. People were free to offer sacred tobacco and their prayers to add to the fire any time at night.

The Algonquin people interacted with other tribes fairly well. They were allies with the French and the Innu. The Algonquin tribe created trade and military alliances with both indigenous and French allies. I think that they wanted to be allies because they are far away so they can feel isolated and cut off from others.
