The FTA Leadership Team participated in a workshop to learn more about current educational policies.  They heard from three guest speakers:

• Derek Lews, gubernatorial appointee to the SC Joint Citizens and Legislative Committee on Children SC

• Catherine Schumacher, President and CEO for Public Education Partners

• Julie Horton, Director of Governmental Relations for Greenville County Schools

They discussed several current policies in effect, the rationale behind each and the impact they have on public education.  Policies included:

• Cell Phone Policy

• State Budget

• State money used for private schools (vouchers)

• Other emerging issues

Leadership will prepare for a trip to the statehouse in Columbia on April 9th with the Greenville County Teacher Forum and Public Education Partners Teacher Fellows
