What is STAR Academy?  

The STAR  Academy was instituted by Greenville County Schools to allow students that have been held back or retained for any reason to get back on the original grade level they should be in.  We began the in house STAR Academy program at Beck Academy in 2017.  Since then we have demonstrated a 100% success rate for the two school years that we have had the program in existence.  STAR students will complete their 7th and 8th grade school years in one school year.  With the successful completion of the program the STAR student will be promoted to the 9th grade.  

What are the Expectations of a STAR Academy student? 

As a student in the STAR Academy, you are held to a higher standard in and out of the classroom than a regular student.  Students are expected to carry an A/B report card average each quarter in all classes taken. Behavior in class and out of class is expected to be held to that of a student that is going to High School next year.  With the rigorous schedule for these students attendance is necessary for success and chronic absenteeism will be discussed on an individual basis.  

What does a STAR Academy student's schedule look like? 

The Star Academy students take on a rigorous class schedule that allows for them to take part in both 7th grade and 8th grade classes to receive the credits they need to move on to high school.  The schedule is different from the traditional schedule that the students partake in. Our Star Academy students will take both 7th and 8th grade English, Math 7/8 ( covers both 7th and 8th grade math), Science 7 (First semester), Science 8 (Second semester), Social Studies 7 and a Related Arts class.

Who is the staff for STAR Academy?

 Ms. Bailey (7th Grade School Counselor) works diligently with our Star Academy students  in and out of the classroom to enable them to be the best students possible and have the maturity to succeed in the Star Academy and later on in high school.
