I am very excited to begin a new school year and feel fortunate to have your child among the students I will teach – and from whom I will learn. As is my tradition, I write to ask your help in forming a partnership between your home and our classroom. While your child shares my classroom for only one year, it is my hope that 2nd grade will be a year your child remembers fondly.
The most important aspect of my teaching is making your child feel at home in our classroom and helping all children come together into a respectful learning community made up of individuals – each with his or her own learning style, interests, personal history, hopes and dreams.
I want to make 2nd grade his or her best year yet and I will treat your child as if they are my own!
This is my 24th year as a teacher! I graduated from North Greenville University with a Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood/Elementary Education. After my first year of teaching, I enrolled in the graduate program at Clemson University (GO TIGERS!!) where I got my Master's Degree in School Counseling. After completing my graduate degree I pursued being National Certified...and am very proud to say that I have been a Nationally Board Certified Teacher for 18 years!
My goal as your child's teacher is to help each of my students' reach his/her full potential and instill in them a love for learning. I will respect each child as an individual and offer concern and understanding for any problems that may arise. I will do my very best to help each student achieve the goals of the academic content standards set forth by the state of S.C.
Your support is very important to me and to the success of your child in meeting these expectations as well! Please help me in supporting your child by making this year the BEST one yet! I absolutely love teaching 2nd Grade and I look forward to getting to know you and your child & anticipate a year filled with learning and fun! Second Grade is such an important grade in a child's life!
Please feel free to contact me should you have questions or concerns, you may contact me at Woodland Elementary at (864) 355-0428 or via email at mpitts@greenville.k12.sc.us. I have office hours from 9:10-9:55. I will treat your child as MY OWN and will love and cherish the time that we spend together this school year!
Thank you for your support! Here's to a great year TOGETHER!
Best Regards,
Melissa Pitts
