Have you ever thought of a book, game, or cartoon that has not become live-action yet, and you are desperate for certain actors to be in the live-action version? That is what this column is for!
Coco is about a young boy named Miguel who goes through a lot of trouble playing music when his family hates it. Automatically, he falsely assumes that he is the great-great-grandson of a famous performer, runs away with his brainless dog that might have a bunch of diseases, destroys his family mural, and forgets what his great-great-grandfather looks like because he does not realize he has only half of the photo from the mural. Join me and try not to get mad at Miguel's logic so we can all get through this together.
Miguel is a very young musician with a lot of family issues. It seems that he would rather play away on the guitar and stay with his grandma, dog, or great-great-grandfather than eat and go to school. This course of action is highly not recommended. When Miguel first goes to the land after you die, he sees someone named Hector, who is trying to break out. For some reason, Miguel thinks: I can totally trust this guy with my life. What if he was a serial killer? You don't go up to sketchy people and ask for things. Luckily, this random stranger ended up being related to him.
Sonny Bustamante (Boo-sta-mon-tay) would be great for this role. He has the same ears, eyebrows, eyes, and face. Unfortunately, Sonny just started acting before COVID started, so there is not really much info to back up the reasoning for this role choice except for his looks and his role as Carlos from Julie And The Phantoms. Carlos is similar to Miguel in a way because they are both young and do not fully think situations through. Both characters automatically think they are right.
Héctor is a serious musician on the inside but is a goofy person on the outside. He gets annoyed easily by Miguel, his great-great grandson, especially when his past doesn't want to come back to him but, at the same time, it charges after him when Héctor is just trying to live his “normal” financially broken and dead skeleton life. I was kind of disappointed that Héctor didn't have a fight scene with the main villain. It would have been cool but, unfortunately, he is a scaredy cat.
Mathew Gray Gubler would fit this role really, really well: same face, same eyes and nose. Did I ever mention that he is great with kids? He's perfect. My reasoning for casting Gubler as this role is thanks to a video on YouTube of Mathew speaking Spanish, which is a kind of important skill to play Héctor. Unfortunately, it got deleted from Youtube three days later, but Tik-Tok luckily preserved the video. Gubler’s similar roles are Paul from 500 Days Of Summer, Chip from 68 Kill, and Wes from Dollface-- all roles in which the characters are very stubborn but still want to do something with their lives.
Chicharron (Chuh-chaa-ruhn) is a character with a physical disability who is one of Héctor's old friends. He deserved a lot better, to be honest. Dismayingly, Chicharion never got an apology from Héctor for the fact that he ‘’borrowed’’ almost everything Chicharion has ever had, including body parts. Anyway, I wish we had a backstory because we did not know much about him, except for the fact that he sometimes despises his friend and half of his teeth are missing.
Who doesn’t love Danny Devito? Danny Devito is the perfect old man for this role. All he has to do is embrace being an old man. Perfect acting. The easiest thing ever. Devito's similar roles are Frank Reynolds from It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia, the Lorax from The Lorax, Bruce Davis from The Haunted Mansion, and Edward Gilpin from Jumanji 3-- all characters who are very stubborn, grumpy, and demanding.
Ernesto is an undercover villain. His villain arc just had to be frustratingly backward throughout the whole movie. Some people who watched the movie seemed to believe that the backstory was long and thawed out. Clearly, these people have not been introduced to old Disney, but whatever. Ernesto was originally Héctor's best friend but ended up poisoning him out of jealousy and selfishness because he wanted to be the famous one causing Hector to become a skeleton. Karma hit him hard a few years later when an enormous bell crushed him.
It should not be that hard to find an actor for Ernesto. Ernesto has a very broad, seductive face that is the size of a vitamin-mixer. [No offense to Orlando Bloom.] He was my childhood. Orlando Bloom has a similar appearance to Ernesto. Plus, he already has been in movies with big fights like The Pirates Of The Caribbean Series, The Lord Of The Rings Series. His characters from those two, Will Turner and Legolas are both clever in their own ways.
Overall, the above description is what I want a screen adaptation of Coco to look like. Have a nice month!
