To play switch, all you need is a four square court and 5 or more players. If you don't have a four square court available, consider using 5 cones, 5 polyspots, or 5 hula hoops, etc. (4 to use as the "corners" and 1 to used as the "middle").
Review with the players how to use "Roshambo" (rock-paper-scissors), this will likely be used often in the game. If there are new players to the game, consider playing a practice game.
You'll need five players at a time. Each player occupies a corner or the middle.
Play begins when the person in the middle raises their hand and then gives a fist pump while saying: "Switch!"
All players must find a new corner/cone to occupy. No player can go to the center cone.
If a player can't find an unoccupied corner, they're out.
If two players arrive at the corner at the same time, use "Roshambo" (rock-paper-scissors). Winner stays.
If a player makes contact with another player, they're out.
The next person in line becomes the person in the middle and begins the next round.
When a player gets out, and as they return to the cheering line for another try, those in the game and those in the cheering line should consider recognizing that player's efforts and good sportsmanship by giving a high five and or saying, in a supportive tone, "Good job, Nice try."
(Variation) Consider adding more areas/corners for players to go to.
(Variation) Consider adding colored cones, polyspots, hula hoops, etc., and have the player in the middle call out a color that signals to the other players to switch. The caller then runs to the color they called out. All the other players have to switch to a different color but can't go to the color that was called out.
