Note: If the weather is bad, and you don't have the gym, consider playing four corners, quiet ball or watching a PBS kids program in an available classroom, relo or other space. Additional inside games you could play are available here: https://sites.google.com/granitesd.org/mr-brough/teacher-helps
Grades K - 2
(15 - 20 minute activity)
Equipment: Short Pool Noodle (optional)
Description:
All the players, except the person who is “It” (the Fox), sit in a circle.
The “Fox” walks around the circle, tapping each player on the shoulder with a foam noodle while saying “Duck.” Eventually, the Fox taps someone (preferably someone who hasn’t had a turn yet) and says “Goose!” The person who was tapped then becomes the Goose. The Goose then chases the Fox (no more than twice) around the circle. The Fox tries to get back to the Goose's spot to steal it before getting tagged by the Goose.
If the Goose tags the Fox before the Fox can steal their spot, the Fox has to go to the middle of the circle and sit down for one round ("If the Fox gets caught, they go to the pot!"). If the Goose doesn’t tag the Fox before the Fox steals their spot, the Goose becomes the new Fox.
Try to make sure all students get a chance to be the Fox and the Goose. Also, be sure that all players are sitting up straight and that their hands are not on the floor behind them, otherwise head or fingers can get easily tripped or stepped on. If you're playing in the gym, have students play within the basketball court, avoiding the walls.
