Dear parents
What a fantastic and eventful period it's been at Grange Park Primary! We've seen incredible spirit, celebrated our diverse community, and continued to create memorable experiences for our pupils.
This week saw a mixed bag with Sports Day. We were incredibly fortunate with the weather for Nursery, Reception, Year 1, 3 and 6 , managing to escape very high temperatures and rain! It was such a great event – many children said it was the highlight of their year, and our Year 6s, in their last Sports Day, definitely made the most of it! It was fantastic to see the older children helping out, and all the children had great fun with the activities like hurdles, space hoppers, and the three-legged race. It was also wonderful to see the children just dancing to the music, and their personalities truly shone through with the activities.
Unfortunately, we had to postpone the Year 2, 4, and 5 Sports Day to Thursday 3 July , at 2 pm. We really didn't want to, as we know the children, staff, and parents were looking forward to it. However, when the heavens started pouring over Grange Park just before Sports Day, we had no choice, as the field and all the equipment became soaking wet, which would have been a health and safety hazard. We hope you all understand, and we'll try again next week—fingers crossed!
We were incredibly proud of our success as a Google Reference School last week! Our pupils were the real stars, showcasing to other schools across the UK and Ireland how Chromebooks and Google tools have transformed their learning and creativity. They even got an exclusive tour of the Google offices, sparking dreams of future tech careers!
In exciting news, our very own Google innovator, Ernest Pawlowski is at the ISTE conference in Texas! This global event is a fantastic chance for him to explore the latest education technology and teaching strategies, He's eager to bring back fresh ideas to make learning even more engaging for our pupils.
Another huge success was our vibrant World Cultural Day on Thursday 19 June. The school was a riot of colour and celebration as children learned about and proudly shared their own cultures. Many parents told us how the day sparked wonderful conversations about their heritage at home, truly embodying our vision to ensure all children feel seen and celebrated. It was a testament to our diverse and inclusive community!
Another highlight this week was the Stay and Play sessions for Reception, and last week for Nursery. The children absolutely loved them and truly didn't want to leave! We think the new Reception children were just so thrilled to be able to play in that large sandpit – we're so excited for them to be joining us next year!
Looking ahead, please note we anticipate another heatwave early next week. To help children stay comfortable, non-uniform (loose clothing) with closed-toe shoes will be permitted on Monday and Tuesday.
And don't forget our much-anticipated Summer Fayre on Sunday 6 July, from 12 pm to 4 pm! It's set to be an exciting day with a KS2 football tournament (sign up via Arbor), a Dance Showcase for Y1-Y6 (details about timings have been sent out), and plenty of fun. You can grab your wristbands in advance at https://www.peoplesfundraising.com/shop/summer-fayre-wristband-presale. Also, remember to ask your employer about Matched Funding – your volunteer time could double the funds raised for the school, as GPPSA is a registered charity!
Finally, for extended fun, remember to sign up for the Extend Holiday Club, open to new Reception children too, and featuring a week of Forest School! Find out more click here. We can't wait to see you at the Summer Fayre and continue this fantastic term!
With my very best wishes

Generative AI Safety
The remarkable growth of generative AI tools like ChatGPT has opened up exciting new opportunities for young learners.
Generative AI can be a brilliant tool for creativity and learning – but it’s not without its hazards. Used wisely, AI can be a powerful ally in boosting creativity, learning and problem-solving skills. However, without proper guidance, young people may stumble into challenges including inaccurate information, data security risks, and a growing reliance on AI over their own critical thinking.
With 3 in 4 children now using generative AI (up from just 2 in 5 last year!), it’s more important than ever for parents to understand the risks. Find out how to help children use AI safely and smartly.
All children are encouraged to bring in fruit and vegetable each day to have as a snack. Children in reception, year 1 and year 2 are provided with a fruit or vegetable under the government scheme, they can of course bring in an additional snack (fruit or vegetable) if they wish.
If your child attends an enrichment club, your child can also bring in a fruit and vegetable to have after school. Please ensure children only bring in a piece of fruit or vegetable, which has been washed beforehand (no biscuits, cereal bars, cheeses or crisps).
This week, the Grange Park Eco Ambassadors went to the Firs Farm Wetland Centre to learn about how wetland areas clean the water that flows through them. The young activists also planted a herb garden for use at the cafe on site. The visit was organised by the Friends of Firs Farm, whose trustee Toni Guiver said “We were very excited to get the children involved in this important project and look forward to more involvement from Grange Park and other local schools.” For the last three years, Grange Park Primary School has been working hard to lessen its environmental impact as a local institution. The children at the school have earned an Eco-Schools Green Flag award, an international accreditation, recognising their amazing work in making the school more environmentally friendly and raising eco-awareness in the community.
World Culture Day – A Celebration of Diversity and Belonging
On Thursday 19 June, Grange Park was bursting with colour, music and celebration as we came together for World Culture Day. From the moment children arrived in their traditional clothing, flag colours, or football kits representing countries meaningful to them, the excitement and pride were palpable.
Each class focused on a different country, offering children the chance to explore a wide range of traditions through food, music, art, storytelling and more. The classrooms were beautifully decorated with fun facts, handmade flags and welcoming displays – a testament to the creativity and commitment of our staff and children.
The day ended with a vibrant parade where children proudly waved the flags they had made and shared where they and their families come from. It was a truly joyful celebration of the many cultures and backgrounds that make up our school community.
As a school, we are working hard to ensure that all children feel seen, celebrated and represented – and World Culture Day was a shining example of that vision in action.
Thank you to all families who supported the event.
We are extremely lucky at Grange Park that all children from Year 1 upwards have their very own chromebook.
Click here to hear how we use our chromebooks to promote Assessment.
Some parents have generously contributed to our voluntary donations to support education here at Grange Park Primary school. There is no fixed amount, donations are entirely discretionary and any amount is sincerely appreciated. Simply log onto Arbor - School Shop - Voluntary donations to school.
Last week was a truly proud moment for Grange Park Primary as we showcased our success as a Google Reference School to a gathering of other leading Google Reference Schools from across the UK and Ireland. Our incredible pupils were undoubtedly the real stars of the show. They eloquently demonstrated how Chromebooks and the suite of Google tools have utterly transformed their learning and unleashed their creativity across every subject. Witnessing their confidence and expertise in explaining their digital work was truly inspiring for all attendees.
A highlight for our pupils was an exclusive tour of the Google offices. This incredible experience not only offered them a fascinating glimpse into the world of cutting-edge technology but also profoundly impacted them, sparking dreams and aspirations for future careers in tech. Beyond the glitz of Google, our presentation also focused on the practical benefits of our digital integration. We shared how these tools enable us to use real-time assessment for more agile teaching approaches, tailored directly to the children's needs. Furthermore, the pupils themselves proudly showcased how accessibility tools like voice typing and speech-to-text preserve their self-esteem, ensuring all learners can express themselves confidently.
The impact of our Google Reference School status extends beyond the classroom. We were delighted that some of our parents also joined us at the event, where they shared invaluable insights into how Google Classroom helps them feel more involved with their children's learning. This fosters a stronger partnership between home and school, ensuring parents are better informed and connected to their child's educational journey. Our recognition as a Google Reference School is a testament to our whole school community's commitment to leveraging technology for a truly enhanced and empowering educational experience.
Our very own Google innovator, Ernest Pawlowski, is currently in Texas attending the prestigious International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) conference. This leading global event brings together educators and tech experts from around the world to explore the very latest advancements in education technology and teaching strategies. It's a fantastic opportunity for Ernest to stay current in the rapidly evolving field of ed-tech and discover innovative ways to make learning even more engaging and effective for our pupils.
At ISTE, Ernest is focused on exploring cutting-edge tools and strategies designed to make lessons more interactive and personalised. He's attending sessions on a diverse range of topics, including how to coach teachers for maximum impact, leveraging podcasting as a powerful learning tool, designing deeper personalised learning experiences, fostering creativity in mathematics, and even integrating artificial intelligence into classroom practices. This direct exposure to global experts and the latest research ensures he gathers the most relevant and impactful ideas to bring back to Grange Park. He's also sharing a project he's been working on this year, further cementing Grange Park's reputation for innovation.
We are incredibly excited for Ernest to return with a wealth of fresh ideas and practical insights that will directly benefit our classrooms. His participation in such a pivotal conference underscores our commitment to providing the best possible learning experience for our children by continuously embracing innovative teaching methods and technology. We eagerly anticipate the new strategies and tools he will introduce to further enrich our curriculum and empower both our teachers and pupils.
Our character trait for this half term is a trait that can help us all to contribute to our community: Community Awareness. To introduce this half term’s character trait, Tijen read the children the story of ‘Thank You, Omu!’ by Oge Mora.
This book tells the story of Omu, whose delicious red stew fills her entire community with its irresistible aroma. Drawn by the scent, various community members arrive at her door, each politely requesting a taste. Omu shares her stew with every visitor, gradually emptying her pot in the process. By the time Omu is ready for her own meal, she discovers her pot is entirely bare. However, her moment of disappointment is short-lived. Soon, there is another knock at the door but this time it is all the neighbours she shared with, each bringing a dish of their own to express their gratitude. They all gather for a joyful and diverse potluck, illustrating how Omu's selfless act of giving returns to her tenfold, enriching her table and her heart with the warmth of her community. The book beautifully celebrates sharing, gratitude, and the strong bonds within a diverse community. During the assembly we discussed what is meant by ‘Community Awareness’; being aware of the community around me and the people that are part of it.
Together we recognised that being aware of our community can help to make positive changes, help to create a welcoming environment for a diverse community and build relationships by respecting others and their needs.
How can parents encourage community awareness at home:
Lead by example: Actively participate in local community events, volunteer, or support local businesses, and openly talk about why you are doing it.
Involve Children in Age-Appropriate Acts of Service: Give children opportunities to contribute. This could be as simple as helping to sort clothes for donation to a local charity, collecting litter on a walk around the local area, or helping to bake cookies for a new neighbour. Discuss Current Events and Local Issues in a Child-Friendly Way: Depending on their age, engage children in conversations about what is happening in their local community.
Well done to Puma, Year 4 and Oakwood for winning the last round of battles on Times Table Rock Stars. Our year 4’s have just completed their times table check and we look forward to hearing how well they have done. The next round of battles is already underway so keep working hard to steer your class, year group and family to victory.
For those children in year 5 and 6, or any children who have mastered their tables up to 12 x 12, please try and work on the 13+ tables to further your knowledge.

At the end of last half term we celebrated our ‘Always Stars’. ‘Always Star’ children are children who ALWAYS show that they follow the Big 3, they are ALWAYS respectful, resilient and show responsibility and they ALWAYS try their very best, taking on challenges with a growth mindset and never giving up. Here are the Always Stars’ for the first half of the summer term.
Grange Park PE – Celebrating Another Successful Term!
It’s been another fantastic term for Grange Park PE, filled with incredible achievements and exciting events!
Our talented athletes from Years 3, 4, 5, and 6 showed outstanding determination and teamwork to win the Enfield Borough Athletics competition at Lee Valley. What an amazing accomplishment!
A huge congratulations also goes to our brilliant Year 4 boys and girls, who came out on top at the Enfield Borough Golfway event, held at Bush Hill Park Golf Club. Well done to all our children — your dedication and effort make us so proud.
Looking ahead, the excitement continues! This term, our boys’ football team will be competing in two important cup fixtures:
• The Fursman Cup Semi-Final
• The Boys’ Cup Final at Power League
Well done to all our athletes, and good luck to our teams in the upcoming competitions. Let’s keep the Grange Park spirit going strong!
Junior Road Watch
The Junior Travel Ambassadors and Year 6 MP’s recently took part in the second round of the Junior Roadwatch scheme, run in collaboration with our local police officers. As part of this important initiative, the children had the opportunity to actively participate in promoting road safety in the community. Armed with a speed detection device, the pupils monitored the speed of passing vehicles outside the school gates. When a driver was found exceeding the speed limit, the children, accompanied by officers, engaged in conversations with the motorists. They explained the dangers of speeding near a school and how their actions can directly impact the safety of young pedestrians.
This hands-on experience gave the children real insight into the work of the police and the importance of community responsibility. In addition to their roadside duties, the pupils were invited into the police van, where they explored its various features, including the radio systems, sirens, and safety equipment. The Junior Roadwatch scheme continues to be an empowering experience for our young leaders, reinforcing key messages around road safety, citizenship, and working together to make our streets safer for everyone.

Hot Weather Information
As hot weather is predicted for Monday and Tuesday next week, we want to ensure your children stay safe and comfortable at school.
Children can wear loose, light-colored clothing on Monday and Tuesday. This will be a non-uniform day, but please ensure children still wear closed-toed shoes for safety.
Please apply sunscreen to your child before they come to school each morning. Children can bring their own labelled bottle of sunscreen to school so they can reapply throughout the day if you wish. There is sunscreen available in the nursery and reception classrooms, please speak to the class teacher if you give consent for this being used if you haven't done so already.
A wide-brimmed sunhat or cap is also essential – please make sure your child brings one every day and that it's labelled.
Staying hydrated is crucial in hot weather. Please send your child to school with a refillable water bottle. Consider freezing a bottle of water overnight; it will keep their drink cool for longer and gradually melt throughout the day. Please ensure that bottles are labelled.
We'll be encouraging children to drink plenty of water and stay in the shade as much as possible. Thank you for your cooperation in helping us keep your children safe and happy during the warm weather.

Parent Workshop - 30.06.2025
Parking Reminder
Please be reminded that it is illegal to park your car on the yellow lines, white zig zags and 'school keep clear' markings outside the school and on the roundabout to drop off or pick up your child.
Please do not stop in the middle of the road to drop off your child and do drive slowly down Worlds End Lane. There are many parents who are stopping in the middle of the road to drop their children off (even young children) which is unsafe and is putting your child and others at risk. Please park your car in a safe place (parents can use Old Grammarian's RFC and Sainsbury's car park) and walk.
Please help us keep our children safe.
Stationery Reminder
Just a reminder that we are asking children from Year 1- Year 6 to bring their own pencil case and stationery to school which many schools are requesting now. This enables children to take care and have a sense of responsibility for their own belongings. Please see the list with a link to Amazon to where you can order the items from:

Parent Transition Workshop
Transition to Secondary School - Parent Workshop
A huge thank you to all the Year 6 parents who took the time to attend our recent Transition to Secondary School workshop hosted by Ebru Hassan from the Local Authority. We really appreciate your engagement and hope you found the session helpful in preparing for this important next step in your child’s journey. If you were unable to attend, or would like to revisit the information, you can find the slides we shared at the link below:
Important Uniform Reminder: Jewellery & Safety
Just a quick reminder about our school uniform policy, especially regarding jewellery. For the safety of all our pupils, we ask that children do not wear any jewellery with the exception of religious items, small stud earrings, and watches ( NO smart watches). It's really important that all earrings and watches are removed before PE and games lessons. Loose jewellery can be a health and safety risk, getting caught or causing injury during activities. Please remember, jewellery is not part of our school uniform.
If you have any questions or if uniform requirements conflict with cultural or religious customs, please do get in touch with the school office. Thanks for helping us keep everyone safe!

Acorn Class have been busy planting herbs and fruits in our outdoor area, including tomatoes and cucumbers. The children have loved getting involved in caring for the plants and are excited to watch them grow over the coming weeks.
This half term, our Reception children had lots of fun planting their very own cress seeds as part of our ‘Living and Growing’ topic. Using cup/yoghurt pots and cotton wool, each child carefully sprinkled their seeds and gave them a little drink of water. The children are now excited to watch their cress heads grow. It’s been a fantastic hands-on activity and it’s been lots of fun too!
Year 1 had an exciting trip to the London Transport Museum, linked to their previous topic, Wheely Great Transport. During the visit, the children took part in a workshop called Is This the Way Back Home? - where they explored different types of transport and how people travelled in the past. They also enjoyed doing some careful observational drawings of the old vehicles, taking inspiration from the fascinating exhibits all around them.
“In the olden days the horses pulled the trams” - Alaia Dragonfly class
“We saw all the old buses and some trains too” - Sara - Grasshopper
“We got to even get in some of the vehicles” - Remy - Ladybird
“We learnt about buses in the past, it is so cool to see them in real life.” - Arushi - Butterfly Class
Year 2 enjoyed a fun and educational trip to Southend-on-Sea as part of our Learning Quest topic about the seaside. Using the four compass points, we explored our surroundings—spotting the open sea ahead, boats in the distance, and tall buildings behind us. We talked about what we could see, hear, and feel, noticing the soft sand, salty air, and seagulls flying overhead. After enjoying our lunch on the beach, we worked together to build sandcastles, learning how the sand shapes and holds. It was a wonderful way to bring our classroom learning to life!
Year 3 has been experimenting on how to make objects move in different ways using force. They explored how they could push, pull or twist to make different objects move. They used balls, straws, spinners and pieces of paper.
What a busy and exciting few weeks it has been for our Year 4 children!
Earlier this half term, the children took part in their much-anticipated sleepover, an unforgettable experience where they spent the night camping in tents! For many of the children (and even some of the teachers), it was their very first time sleeping outdoors. Throughout the day, they took part in a variety of team-building activities such as gutter games, orienteering, team sports and parachute games, with plenty of healthy competition along the way! In the lead-up to the event, the children showcased their creativity by designing promotional posters using digital tools like Google Slides and Canva.
In the evening, everyone enjoyed a well-earned dinner of pizza followed by delicious cupcakes. To end the day on a magical note, we gathered around the campfire to sing songs, toast marshmallows, and sip hot chocolate before settling down for the night. There may not have been much sleep, but the memories made were priceless!
Alongside all the fun, our Year 4 children have also shown fantastic determination and resilience in completing their Multiplication Tables Check (MTC). They have worked incredibly hard all year to learn and apply their times tables across the curriculum. We are so proud of their commitment, positive attitude, and growth mindset. Most importantly, we know that every child gave their very best effort, which is something to truly celebrate!
Year 5 had a fantastic and enriching day at Walton on the Naze as part of their geography topic on coasts and erosion. The trip provided an exciting opportunity for children to witness the real-life impact of coastal erosion on the landscape. As they walked along the beach and cliff paths, the children observed how natural forces such as wind, waves and tides shape and change the coastline over time. They were particularly engaged in identifying and discussing the various coastal defence systems in place, including sea walls, groynes and revetments. These structures sparked thoughtful conversations about how people try to manage and reduce erosion to protect homes, habitats and land from being lost to the sea.
The highlight of the day was standing at the top of the cliffs and looking out across the North Sea, imagining how the coastline might change in years to come. The children asked insightful questions and recorded their observations, which they will use back in class to support further learning and project work. It was a thoroughly enjoyable and educational visit that brought classroom learning to life and deepened the children's understanding of geography in action.
Chicken Shed workshops
This half term, Year 6 have taken part in weekly workshops with the amazing team from Chicken Shed Theatre Company. Each Friday, pupils have been developing their skills in both acting and dancing through fun, creative sessions.
In acting, the children have explored techniques such as freeze frames, improvisation, and role play. These activities have helped them build confidence, express emotions, and develop clear communication on stage.
In the dance sessions, pupils have learned energetic routines that encourage coordination, rhythm, and teamwork. They’ve shown great enthusiasm and focus while working together to create polished performances.
The workshops have been a fantastic opportunity for Year 6 to grow in confidence, creativity, and collaboration. We’re proud of their progress and look forward to more exciting sessions to come!
