Dear parents
It's hard to believe we've reached the last day of term! This year has been filled with so many incredible highlights, and you should all be so very proud of your children. It's sad to say goodbye to our Year 6s today; their production of "The Greatest Showman" was truly phenomenal with incredible singing, dancing, acting, and even the unsung heroes of props, lighting, and sound making it all possible. What a spectacular way to end their time with us – goodbye and thank you, Year 6!
Our wonderful new school dog, Toffee, has settled right into the Grange Park family, bringing joy and a sense of calm to everyone she meets. She's looking forward to spending more time in school and with the children next year. We're also incredibly proud to announce Grange Park Primary has earned the Green Flag Award with distinction, thanks to Michael and our Eco Ambassadors' fantastic work tackling waste, cutting our carbon footprint, and saving water. We hope to continue this great work next year.
You would have received information regarding parent volunteers to support our Grange Park Primary School Parents Association (GPPSA). Your support is vital to ensure we can continue organising exciting events and fundraising activities that enrich our children's education and strengthen our school community, please click here to express your interest. You would also have received an important Arbor message about school attendance and penalty notices; regular attendance is crucial for your child's learning and development. This is something we are required to send out annually to parents and we appreciate your continued support in this matter.
This is a great opportunity to say a massive thank you to all the staff who have worked tirelessly to give our children the best opportunities here at Grange Park. To those leaving us, we wish you all the very best. For those returning, we'll see you all on Wednesday 3 September. Wishing you all a fantastic summer!
With my best wishes to you and your families.
Tijen Hassan
Headteacher
Our school attendance target is 97%. The overall attendance this year is 96%. Thank you to all those families who are working with us to prioritise their child’s learning. We appreciate you working with us to achieve the best outcomes for your child.
We are aware that some families take time off school around the summer holidays in order to go abroad. Taking your child out of school for a holiday during term time is not permitted and will not be authorised. We understand that families may wish to travel for various reasons, but it is your child’s statutory right to receive a full-time education. Unauthorised absences may result in formal consequences, including potential fines or further action. We ask that all families prioritise their child's education and plan holidays during designated school breaks.
We are also aware that families go abroad and call their child in as ‘off sick’. If we have reason to believe your child has been away from school due to a family holiday rather than illness, we will write to you and ask for evidence such as medication or a screen print from the GP. We believe that if your child is off school for a week, medical advice should have been sought at some point.
Why is punctuality so important?
It’s a GREAT START to the day, putting your child in a positive frame of mind to make the most of the day’s learning and activities. Punctuality is linked to good attendance, and as we know, good attenders have more opportunities, more support and therefore achieve more!
ALSO…
It helps your child make friends (in the playground) which leads to improved self-confidence and therefore SUCCESS. AND…
It sets your child up for their future – whether it is college, work or university, they could lose their place or lose their job if they think it’s ok to be late!
This year we have a tie for first place! Well done to two of our families, Broomfield and Trent, you are the winners of overall attendance in the 2024 2025 academic year! A special well done to Trent family who were in fourth place last half term and have really put in the effort to rise to first place.
Two weeks ago, we held our third 'Brain School' assembly, continuing our journey of learning about how our brains work and how they help us manage emotions. We began with a flashback to what we’ve learned so far—focusing on the different parts of the brain, including the amygdala, and using the hand-brain model to understand how our brain can control our emotional responses.
In this session, we introduced the concept of the 'lizard brain'—a way of describing the primitive part of our brain responsible for basic survival instincts like fight, flight, or freeze. We talked about how our lizard brain kicks in when we feel threatened or overwhelmed, and how it can sometimes lead to strong emotional reactions.
Children reflected on times they might have experienced a 'lizard brain' moment and what it felt like. Most importantly, we explored calming strategies to help us move out of our lizard brain and into a more regulated, thoughtful state. Strategies such as deep breathing, grounding techniques, positive affirmations, and asking for help were shared and practised.
The children showed great insight and engagement throughout the assembly, and we are proud of how they continue to build their understanding of emotional regulation. ‘Brain School’ is helping us all learn how to recognise our feelings, name them, and respond in ways that are safe and helpful for ourselves and others.
It’s been a fantastic year for our School Parliament at Grange Park Primary! From campaigning for safer streets to raising money for important causes, our dedicated team of MPs and class councillors have been busy creating real change and representing the voices of their classmates. Here’s a look back at their inspiring achievements.
Target 1: Safer Streets and Road Awareness
One of the Parliament’s top priorities this year was to campaign for safer roads outside our school. In January and June, our MPs joined local police officers for Junior Roadwatch, where they helped use speed guns to check how fast cars were going near the school. It was an eye-opening experience that taught us all about road safety and gave us the chance to speak directly to drivers.
The team also delivered an assembly to raise awareness of road safety and mental health, reminding children and parents just how important it is to stay alert and safe outside the school gates.
Target 2: Supporting Mental Health and Wellbeing
Looking after our mental health is just as important as physical safety and our MPs knew it! This year, they set up a suggestion box to gather ideas from every class about how to improve wellbeing at school. They used these ideas to help write a letter to the Pantry, suggesting ways to improve the food options available to children.
They also played a key role in organising our amazing World Cultural Day, helping to promote diversity, inclusion and kindness across the school with a range of exciting activities with each class assigned a country.
Target 3: Charity and Fundraising Champions
The School Parliament has also had a big impact on supporting others. Here are just some of their incredible efforts:
Joined the Shoeshare scheme, collecting shoes for those in need and informing families how to take part.
Organised fun activities for Comic Relief, raising money with smiles and laughter.
Helped sell poppies for Remembrance Day after contacting the Royal British Legion.
Ran a delicious bake sale at the Christmas Fayre.#
Took part in the Daily Mile challenge, raising funds for our very own school swimming pool project!
A Visit to the Houses of Parliament
As a special reward for all their hard work, the MPs had the incredible opportunity to visit the Houses of Parliament in London. They even got to meet our local MP, Bambos Charalambous, who shared how important it is for young people to be involved in democracy. During the visit, they saw the House of Lords, admired the thrones of King Charles and Queen Victoria, and got a behind-the-scenes look at how our government works.
A Year to Be Proud Of
This year, the School Parliament has shown just how much children can achieve when they come together with ideas, teamwork and determination.
From making our streets safer to improving school life and helping people in need, their impact has been incredible and there is no doubt they have made Grange Park a better place for everyone.
A huge well done to all our school MPs! We can’t wait to see what next year brings.
We are extremely lucky at Grange Park that all children from Year 1 upwards have their very own chromebook.
Click here to hear how we use our chromebooks to promote Accessibility.
Some parents have generously contributed to our voluntary donations to support education here at Grange Park Primary school. There is no fixed amount, donations are entirely discretionary and any amount is sincerely appreciated. Simply log onto Arbor - School Shop - Voluntary donations to school.
Another Incredible Year of Sports Days at Grange Park!
From our youngest nursery stars to our confident Year 6 champions, this year’s Sports Days were bursting with energy, smiles, and unforgettable moments. With football, rugby, sack races, egg and spoon, and so many more fun-filled games, every child had the chance to shine and show off their talents.
The events culminated in a fantastic few days of sporting celebration at Grange Park, marking the perfect end to a successful school year. A massive congratulations to TRENT Family for finishing in first place!
It was truly heartwarming to see the joy on every child’s face, their dance moves between events, and the laughter shared with friends—all set to a lively soundtrack of music and cheer.
A huge thank you to our incredible PE team for their hard work and dedication in making these days so special. We couldn’t have done it without you! Here’s to another year of teamwork, sportsmanship, and fun!
Anti Bullying Ambassadors
Our Anti-Bullying Ambassadors have been doing an incredible job, demonstrating a true commitment to ensuring every child feels safe and supported. They've genuinely enjoyed collaborating and coming up with creative ideas to foster a positive environment where no one gets bullied. The training they received was instrumental in equipping them with the skills and confidence to excel in their roles. Looking ahead, they are excited to continue working towards achieving their badges and are already planning engaging school events for all the children.
Celebrating Our Teachers’ Talents!
This week’s Family Assemblies were a wonderful celebration of achievements, passions, and hidden talents – not just from our children, but from our teachers too!
Children proudly shared their own hobbies and successes in their families assembly, and were inspired to hear about their teachers’ amazing talents.
We heard how Tracy and Nick L ran marathons, while James and Ollie referee semi-professional football games. Nick, Christian, Pedros, and George were all part of the prestigious FA Youth Cup, and Mel now plays for Watford FC as a Central Attacking Midfielder!
We also celebrated Michelle’s musical talent on the piano, Hollese’s strength in completing a Hyrox competition, Elaine’s love for gardening, and Natalia’s skills on the tennis court and Ana Maria and Ipek completed a 5K run.
Finally, Ernest shared his passion for education technology. He was selected for the Google for Education Innovator Academy and attended the ISTE conference in Texas, working with teachers from around the world. Our children were left inspired to celebrate their own talents and dreams – a brilliant reminder that everyone has something special to offer!
Well done to Puma, Oakwood, and Year 4 for winning their battles! New battles have now begun and will continue throughout the Summer holidays. At the end of term, children will automatically move up into their new class on the platform. Year 6 pupils will be placed into a special ‘Leavers’ class and their accounts will remain active until the end of the Summer break.
Over the holidays, we strongly encourage children to continue practising their times tables. This is a vital part of their mathematical development, forming the foundation for more complex topics such as division, fractions and problem-solving. Regular practice helps build speed, accuracy and confidence.
For children in Years 4 and 5 who are already secure in their tables up to 12 × 12, try challenging them with the 13 times table and beyond to extend their learning. Revisiting and reinforcing the core tables will also ensure they stay sharp and ready for the new school year.
At the end of last half term we celebrated our ‘Always Stars’. ‘Always Star’ children are children who ALWAYS show that they follow the Big 3, they are ALWAYS respectful, resilient and show responsibility and they ALWAYS try their very best, taking on challenges with a growth mindset and never giving up. Here are the Always Stars’ for the second half of the summer term.
A Huge Congratulations to Our Sports Stars!
Well done to our Year 5/6 Tennis Team for winning the Enfield Borough Tennis Tournament at Conway Tennis Club – a fantastic achievement!
A big shout-out to our Boys' Football Team for their impressive victory in the Boys’ Cup Final – what a performance!
We are also incredibly proud to have been awarded the School Games Platinum Mark Award, recognising our ongoing commitment to PE and sport at Grange Park. This award is a true reflection of the hard work, passion, and dedication shown by our PE Team and pupils.
Well done to everyone involved!
Grace Church
Members of Grace Church and some of our parents who attend their English Conversation Classes, had a great trip seeing Buckingham Palace, the Changing of the Guard, walked through St James Park to catch the boat from Millbank, catching lots of landmark sites and ending up at the Tower of London and seeing the Memorial Poppy display. They then caught the tube back in time to pick up children from School! What a wonderful day! Thank you Grace Church for providing our parents with this lovely opportunity!
Enrichment Clubs
A huge thank you to all the parents and carers who joined us for our Summer Showcase. It was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the fantastic work children have been doing in their clubs this term—from creative arts and sports to music and STEM. Our club leaders and children were proud to share their achievements with you, and your support helped make the event truly special.
Bookings are now open for our Autumn Term clubs! We have a wide range of exciting activities on offer once again. Please check the club letter or school website for details on how to book. We look forward to another brilliant term of enrichment and fun.

Letter to Parliament
Azzura, Fraser, Abigail, Sophia and Jolie from Year 2 were shocked to learn about the closure of Oakwood Library. Determined to take action, they decided to write a letter to the Prime Minister, expressing their deep disappointment and outlining the many reasons why the library should remain open.
To their surprise, they received a response from the Prime Minister. In Spring, the decision was made to keep the library open. What a fantastic result for the community as a result of Azzura and her friends. Here is the article written about their incredible achievement

Interested In Becoming A Primary School Teacher
Smartphones
Enfield Council has published a letter, signed by over 80 Enfield schools, including Grange Park, informing families of a new policy regarding smartphones. Starting in September 2025, smartphones will not be permitted in Enfield primary schools. Additionally, pupils beginning Year 7 at secondary schools this September will also be prohibited from bringing smartphones to school throughout their Year 7 to Year 11 studies.
Currently, some of our Year 5 and Year 6 pupils who walk home or travel to school independently bring smartphones, which they must switch off upon arrival at the school gates and hand to their class teacher for safekeeping until the end of the day. However, this will change in September, and smartphones will no longer be allowed. As an alternative, we suggest parents consider purchasing 'brick phones' that allow for calls and texts.
The reasoning behind this decision is detailed in the linked letter. As schools, we frequently witness the adverse effects of smartphones and social media on young pupils. We aim to support parents in guiding their children to wait until the age of 14 for a smartphone and 16 for social media access.
Enfield is not the first local authority where schools have collaborated on this issue; Barnet schools issued a similar letter a few months ago. Increasingly, schools both nationally and internationally are taking similar steps.

New Committee Members and Volunteers needed for the GPPSA
I am writing to you today with an important request regarding the future of our parents association, the Grange Park Primary School Association (GPPSA) and with a crucial call for volunteers.
The GPPSA is a registered charity and is dedicated to fostering a strong partnership between home and school. It plays a vital role in bringing together parents, families, friends, staff, and the local community to support our school socially and financially. Every family with a child enrolled at Grange Park Primary School is automatically a member of the GPPSA.
A committee of parents support the planning and organisation of events and fundraising, and as several committee members are stepping down we now need new parent volunteers to come forward to fill the following roles:
Chair / Co - Chairs
Secretary
Class representatives co-ordinator
Graphic Designer
Main Events co-ordinator
Social Events co-ordinator
Sponsorship co-ordinator
Social media and communications lead
We welcome any and all individuals who are willing to contribute their time, energy and ideas. Also a group of parents who are friends or have children in the same class might consider taking on some of these roles together. Commitments include monthly meetings at the school on Fridays at 2pm and supporting the organisation of events.
Without your support, we will not be able to continue organising the exciting range of events for our children, which are essential for:
Receiving a richer education as a result of resources funded by the GPPSA
Benefiting from parents’ increased understanding of the school
Socialising by taking part in fundraising activities
Understanding the importance of giving
If you are interested in becoming a committee member, please click here. The first meeting of the new school year will be on Friday 19th September at 2pm and the AGM is on Monday 29 September at 7pm.
Thank you for considering this important request. Together, we can ensure that the GPPSA continues to thrive and support our wonderful school.

The Nursery children are preparing for their transition to their new Reception classes. Their new teachers have been visiting during story time to begin building relationships in preparation for September. The Nursery children have also continued caring for their plants and are now excited to see fruit growing, including tomatoes, strawberries, and cucumbers. It’s a very exciting time!
The children in reception have been diving into the fascinating world of floating and sinking as part of their topic work. They learnt that whether an object floats or sinks depends on its density, if it’s less dense than water, it floats; if it’s more dense, it sinks. The children had great fun exploring a range of objects, making thoughtful predictions, and then testing their ideas in water.
To build on this learning, the children took on an exciting hands on challenge: designing and creating boats using foil. They discussed how the shape of a boat can affect its ability to float, and the children used this knowledge to create their own designs. Once their boats were ready, they tested them in water to see if they would float and if they did, they added pebbles one by one to find out how many each boat could hold before it sank! It was a fantastic week full of curiosity, creativity, and scientific discovery.
Year 1 children used skills from Jackson Pollock and Peter Thorpe to create their artwork by exploring bold colours and exciting paint splatters like Pollock. They also looked at how Peter Thorpe used space themes and strong shapes. The children combined messy, expressive painting with bright, colourful designs to make their own creative space pictures.
‘I know red and yellow paint make orange so I made it and used it on my picture’ - Nana - Grasshopper
‘I enjoyed experimenting with techniques like dripping and splattering paint to create my background.’ Lucas - Butterfly
Year 2 explored the concept of tints and tones by experimenting with mixing white and black into colours to create different shades. They applied this knowledge to carefully paint their own self-portraits, paying close attention to skin tone and facial features. The children showed great focus and creativity, producing great pieces of work.
Year 3 have been busy designing and building their Egyptian Keepsake boxes. This has consisted of deciding which ‘net’ to use (either a net with the lid attached or a stand alone lid), deciding the Egyptian images that will be used to decorate each side, investigating how to strengthen the box and eventually the best part…..making the boxes!
Take a look at our designs ✏️
Year 4 children have truly shone in their art project, drawing wonderful inspiration from the captivating artwork of Giles Davies. It's been fantastic to see how they've taken his style and made it their own, especially when designing the layout of their final pieces. Well done on the excellent work!
This summer, Year 5 children have been hard at work in their Design and Technology (D&T) lessons, creating their own Ferris wheels. Using a combination of wood, glue guns, dowel and saws. They skillfully constructed these miniature marvels.
In this project, students developed woodworking skills through hands-on experience with measuring, cutting and assembling materials. They gained a practical mechanical understanding by building rotating structures, exploring the principles of axles for smooth movement. Problem-solving was crucial as children navigated challenges like ensuring balance and stability.
This half term, Year 6 has been fully immersed in preparing for their much-anticipated end of year production of The Greatest Showman. The main hall has been buzzing with excitement as the children have been learning their lines, mastering choreography and rehearsing songs with energy and enthusiasm. Their commitment, creativity and teamwork have been truly inspiring to watch and it’s clear that all their hard work is paying off as the show comes together beautifully. It promises to be a fantastic celebration of their time at primary school and a memorable final performance.
Alongside the excitement of the production, Year 6 also received their SATs results and we could not be prouder of them. Every single child approached the tests with determination, maturity and a positive attitude and their results reflect just how much progress they’ve made. We know how much effort they’ve put in and they should be incredibly proud of themselves, just as we are of them. Well done, Year 6 – you've achieved so much this year and shown just how ready you are for the next chapter!
