Dear parents
It has been a wonderful half term at Grange Park, and I was particularly delighted to see so many of you working together with your children during our ‘Come Learn With Me’ sessions. Each class across the school has explored traditional patterns from different countries to celebrate the rich cultural heritage of our community. The final artworks will form a collaborative, multicultural display, and I must say the outcomes we have seen so far are amazing!
We have also been focusing heavily this half term on our new behaviour tweak: ‘Peaceful Playtimes’. The children have been learning the importance of using ‘Kind Hands, Calm Bodies, and Caring Words’ to ensure that break times continue to be safe, structured, and enjoyable for everyone. It has been lovely to watch them putting this into practice, engaging in inclusive games, and supporting one another to continue to make our playgrounds a happy place to be.
Inside the classrooms, there has been a real buzz of activity. Nursery have been busy strengthening their hands for writing through dough play, whilst Reception explored road safety, creating their own maps and mastering the ‘Stop, Look, Listen, Think’ rules. Year 1 have been working incredibly hard applying their phonics skills to their writing with great enthusiasm. Year 2 embarked on an immersive journey to 1666 during their ‘Great Fire of London’ workshop, dressing in authentic attire to become weavers and bakers, whilst Year 3 also travelled back in time to the Stone Age during their inspiring trip to Celtic Harmony. Moving up the school, it has been a tasty half term in Design and Technology; Year 4 have been analysing flavours for their European sandwich project, whilst Year 5 foraged for herbs in our allotments to investigate the Viking diet. Finally, our Year 6 children had a fantastic time at their PGL residential, challenging themselves and building independence. A huge thank you to the staff who gave up their time away from their own families to support them. The children who remained at school also had a brilliant week, enjoying an array of activities such as designing and making pizza, creating their own adverts and taking part in a variety of sports.
Just a reminder that school is closed tomorrow, Friday 28 November, for an INSET day. We look forward to welcoming the children back on Monday 1 December.
With my very best wishes to you and your families
Tijen Hassan

Contacting the NSPCC Helpline is a good idea. You can get in touch before you are sure what’s happening. The Helpline are the experts. They can take the best next steps for a young person. If you want to, you can call anonymously.
Some top tips to think about:
Talking regularly to your child about what they do online is important.
For tips and advice on online wellbeing, and support with starting the conversation you can visit the NSPCC website.
We do not advise a tech ban. This could make your child less open with you. When used safely, there are lots of benefits to being online.
Spotting things early can help prevent child abuse and neglect from happening.
Even the smallest worry can be part of a bigger picture. It’s always better to ask for help or flag a concern sooner than to wait until later or ignore it.
Our character trait for this half term is a trait that will help to develop honesty and consistency: Reliability.
To introduce this half term’s character trait, Tijen read the children the story of ‘The Storm Whale’ by Benji Davies. It tells the story of a young boy named Noi who lives with his father on a small island. One morning, Noi discovers a baby whale washed up on the beach following a storm. He knows he has to save it. Noi brings the whale home and cares for it secretly, showing great reliability and consistency in feeding and keeping his new friend safe. Noi tries to keep his new friend a secret but realises he must demonstrate honesty and tell the truth about the whale. His father helps Noi take the baby whale back to the sea to be reunited with its mother.
During the assembly we discussed what is meant by ‘reliability’; I can be dependable, trustworthy, and consistent in my actions. Together we recognised that it is good to be a reliable member of the community as it builds trust, honesty and good relationships.
How parents can encourage reliability at home:
These could be feeding a pet, helping to do the washing or loading the dishwasher. Encourage children to be reliable by taking responsibility for packing their school bag the night before, checking that they have everything they need. By nurturing reliability in our children, we're developing honesty and a wider understanding of community and citizenship.
This half term we celebrated Anti-bullying Week. The theme was ‘Power for Good’. The Anti bullying Ambassadors helped to deliver an assembly to the school sharing the theme and how we could use our power for good. The children across the school took part in a survey about how they would show their power for good and here are some of their suggestions:
On 13 November, our school proudly took part in BBC Children in Need’s Challenge Yourself Day, and the children threw themselves into the theme with incredible enthusiasm!
Children arrived dressed as people who inspire them or who they hope to be in the future — from doctors and teachers to astronauts, athletes and real-life heroes. The playground was full of colour, imagination and ambition.
Despite the weather on the day, children took part in a range of fun “challenge yourself” activities, including a Character Quiz, Stick the Bandana on Pudsey, a Build a Bridge Challenge, and the very energetic Star Jump Challenge. It was wonderful to see children supporting each other, trying new things and celebrating effort and perseverance.
Thanks to the generosity of our families, we raised £511.39 for Children in Need. Your contributions help the charity support more children across the UK who are facing challenges of their own.
A huge well done to all our children for their creativity, teamwork and determination — you truly rose to the challenge!
During this Come Learn With Me, each class across the school has explored traditional patterns from different countries of the world to celebrate the cultural heritage of all in our school. The final artworks will form a collaborative, multicultural exhibition. What amazing outcomes we have had! A picture of the final display will be shared when it is finished.
We are extremely lucky at Grange Park that all children from Year 1 upwards have their very own chromebook.

Peaceful Playtimes Promise
Playtime and lunchtime is an important part of the day for our children. It’s a chance to rest, recharge, play with friends and learn valuable social skills. At school, we work hard to ensure that playtimes are safe, structured and enjoyable for everyone.
This half term, we have introduced our new behaviour tweak: Peaceful Playtimes – Kind Hands, Calm Bodies, Caring Words.
Children learn and repeat this daily, helping them remember how to behave safely and respectfully. Each class is revisiting the promise before playtime, exploring it through circle time and have created their own Peaceful Playtime Promise poster to take home.
Our adults encourage inclusive games, kind interactions and friendly play. Staff are trained to help children resolve small disagreements quickly and fairly, supporting them to build confidence in managing social situations.
We actively promote active play. Children have access to:
A range of outdoor spaces, including grassed areas and climbing equipment
Organised games and activities, including use of loose parts and activities with sports coaches
Space for quieter, calmer play
This balance helps all children find something they enjoy.
We have a consistent behaviour system across the school. If children make unsafe choices, adults respond quickly using our tiered behaviour approach. This includes:
Reflect and Reset sheets for reflective conversations
Restorative discussions to repair relationships
Communication between lunchtime staff, class teachers and parents where needed
These systems ensure that children learn from mistakes and feel supported.
We have a clear supervision plan for our playgrounds, with adults positioned across different “zones” so that every area is covered. Staff are encouraged to move around their zones, interact with children and support them in making positive choices. Senior leaders also regularly visit the playground to offer support and ensure consistency.
Our aim is simple: For every child to continue to feel safe, included, active and happy at lunchtimes.
We are proud of the systems we have in place and the way our staff and children work together to make our playgrounds calm, purposeful and fun.
Snack Reminder
This is a friendly reminder to please send a healthy fruit or vegetable snack with your child each day. Fresh, nutritious snacks help students stay energised and ready to learn throughout the school day. Thank you for supporting our healthy eating habits at school!

The Nursery children have been busy developing their fine motor and mark-making skills. Rolling, squeezing and pressing the dough has helped strengthen their hand muscles, preparing them for confident mark making with pens and pencils.
Inspired by our story “Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?”, the children have also enjoyed drawing their own animals, using the storybook characters as a springboard for their creativity.
The children in Reception have been learning about road safety. We focused on the crucial rules of holding an adult's hand when crossing, waiting for the 'Green Man', and applying the four simple steps: Stop, Look, Listen, Think. It has been wonderful to observe the children's creativity as they independently made road signs and designed detailed maps that included features like zebra crossings and traffic lights.
Our Year One families were invited to a special Come Learn With Me event where children proudly shared an art project inspired by countries from around the world. Children explored how patterns and designs represent different cultures, creating vibrant artworks that celebrated diversity and creativity. It was a wonderful opportunity for parent to see the children’s learning in action and join them in celebrating global art and cultural expression.
Stepping back in time, our Year 2 children embarked on an immersive journey during the ‘Great Fire of London’ workshop. Dressed in authentic 1666 attire, they transformed into weavers, metal workers, chandlers, bakers and leatherworkers. The children were captivated by the tales of destruction and flames that engulfed an entire city. They discovered the role of everyday objects left behind in the aftermath. The workshop will definitely leave a long lasting impression on the children!
Last week, Year 3 took an exciting journey back to the Stone Age as part of our history learning. We visited Celtic Harmony Camp, where we stepped into the past and experienced life as early humans. Inside the dark, smoky chieftain’s roundhouse, we discovered how people created fire using only simple tools. Throughout the day, we learned how to forage for food in the woodland, create fire from natural resources, and even take part in a woolly mammoth hunt! Despite the cold weather, the children had an amazing time and gained a real insight into what life was like in the Stone Age.
Year 4 has kicked off a brand new, delicious unit, European Sandwich Making! This exciting project is all about encouraging our Year 4s to try new things and get creative with how they combine different flavours. The challenge is for everyone to design their very own European inspired sandwich. Last lesson, the children had a fantastic time sampling various ingredients. To help them design their sandwich they used spider analysis to quantify their favourite tastes and textures. We can't wait to see their final, creative sandwiches.
In year 5, we have been researching and investigating what the Vikings diet consisted of and discussed how their diet was affected by the seasons. We found out that they ate for energy and foraged for many herbs. We went to our school allotments to pick some herbs that would be available to the Vikings and completed a sensory evaluation based on the products texture, smell and aesthetic!
In Monet Class, we had a wonderful time creating beautiful stained glass windows with our amazing parents during our Come Learn With Me session! It was a fantastic opportunity to get creative together and explore colour, light, and design. Thank you to all the families who joined us—your support and enthusiasm made the experience truly special!
Year 6 were an absolute credit to our school at PGL this year. They pushed themselves to new heights (Literally) - worked on leadership, resilience, problem solving and team work. From the camp fire to laser tag in the woods, the wide range of activities kept them entertained and we all had a long sleep when we finally returned. A shout out to the children who stayed at Grange Park who were fantastic working on their pizza projects. I'm sure they tasted great!
