Wells Road Intermediate School

Message from the Principal

Dear Wells Road Families,

I hope this correspondence finds you safe and healthy! We can’t say how much we miss the children.

As you know, we are heading into uncharted territory. We are doing our best to make sure that we are providing continued learning for our students. Teachers have been hard at work, collecting, creating, and constructing a Distance Learning Plan. They are making sure that the learning is meaningful and is modeled from our curriculum. We will officially begin this plan on Monday, March 23rd, but we know that things will evolve. Although it may not be “perfect,” we will continue to refine our practice. This will be a time of troubleshooting and problem-solving! Not only will teachers be facilitating lessons, but they will also be reaching out to keep personal connections with children. I am sure that many of you have already heard from teachers. We want kids to know that we are all in this together!

Around 8:00 am each day; you will have the work of the day. However, just like in the classroom, each day may not be a brand new concept. We will allow children time for independent practice and skill application. We will attempt to provide choice and various levels of challenge. Regular education teachers and case managers for students with IEP’s or on 504 plans will continue to communicate and collaborate. Through Google Classroom, your children will be provided with direct instruction and specific feedback. Students will be able to get clarification and ask questions.

Teachers will be available during regular school hours 8:15-3:30 and will communicate with students daily. As per practice, teachers will provide you with their Weekly Update. We are trying to keep things as consistent as possible during these very fluid times. Each day, I will communicate a Morning Message that will be on the Live Feed of our website. https://www.granby.k12.ct.us/o/wells-road

We know every family is different, but if possible, please:

  • Use the Granby Public Schools/Wells Road website for additional resources and support. https://sites.google.com/granbyschools.org/gpsdistancelearning/home

  • Keep in contact with your child(ren)’s teachers.

  • Make a consistent schedule with your child(ren). Take time for breaks and at-home fun!

  • Be positive! Rather than what you aren’t allowed to do, let’s focus on what is possible.

  • Limit additional screen time.

  • Get some fresh air and exercise.

  • Keep breathing!

If you have any additional questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me via email. Once again, thank you for your patience, flexibility, and kindness.

Be Well,

Pauline Greer
