GHS is interested in helping you to be prepared for the next step after high school, whether it be college, technical-vocational school, military service, full-time work
PARENTS, PLEASE NOTE! Selection of a graduation plan and the monitoring of course choices are the responsibility of the student and parent, with guidance from the GHS Counseling department
CANCELING COURSES
Some courses in this booklet may not actually be offered because of lack of student interest, scheduling conflicts and closing classes
A student may not be able to register for every course planned during a particular semester
For this reason, the student should plan for alternative courses in case the first choice is not available
All courses will not be offered every semester of every year
SCHEDULE CHANGES
Students are pre-registered in the spring and registered during the summer according to their pre-registration and their test scores
No schedule changes will be made after the tenth day of attendance except where an error has been made in scheduling
Teachers may not be selected nor changed simply by parent request
A teacher change, or any other change after the tenth day of attendance, will be made only if the principal directs the counselor to do so
SENIOR YEAR REQUIREMENT
The Graham ISD board of trustees requires that all seniors be enrolled in at least eight classes.
Students may be enrolled in a course for English IV credit upon successful completion of English I, II and III.
Seniors on the foundation plus endorsement plan may have completed their math and science requirements, but must still be enrolled in eight classes each year, including an English, math, science and social studies class.
ACADEMIC RECOGNITION
A student will be named to the Academic Honor Roll if he or she maintains a 3.0 or above in all courses by six-weeks and by semester
Students can be inducted into the National Honor Society in the spring of their junior year. The criteria for membership include: Scholarship - cumulative GPA of 3.5+; Service to the community; Leadership; Good moral character; Citizenship – exhibiting a high regard for freedom, justice, and democracy
AWARD OF CREDIT
The award of credit for a course affirms that a student has satisfactorily met state and local requirements for each course
Graham ISD may offer courses designated for grades 9–12 in earlier grade levels. If a course was completed prior to 9th grade, it will be indicated as such on the transcript
A student who is able to successfully complete only one semester of a two-semester course can be awarded credit proportionately
Unless credit is awarded by the attendance committee, or regained in accordance with a principal’s plan, a student may not be given credit for a class unless the student is in attendance for at least 90 percent of the days the class is offered
Credit for courses for high school graduation may be earned only if the student received a grade equivalent to 70 on a scale of 100
Units of credit earned in athletics, athletic trainer, cheerleading, drill team, and fall semester band will be counted as physical education equivalent credit
Students are required to obtain approval in advance from the school principal or appointed designee in order to take a correspondence course
Students may earn credit by taking a credit-by-exam test and scoring a 70 with prior instruction and an 80 without prior instruction.
The principal will determine prior instruction
Units of credit earned from non-accredited schools and home study programs will require validation according to guidelines established by school policy
Students who transfer from schools out of Graham ISD and who have honors courses from the previous school shall receive weighted credit at Graham High based on the categories and grade weight system used by Graham High School
