Jack was taken from his parents house in Tashluta at the age of 10 by Yuan-ti slavers. Taken via caravan through the jungle to the city of Delsalar. In that town, as a precocious youngster he was given the task of serving his Yuan-ti owner with food and wine. As he neared the age that his owner liked to bed young boys he put together a plan to escape, there was no way he was going to be a catamite as well as a slave. He paid attention to all the merchants who visited and chose one who was not a slaver, but dealt in delicate goods and memorised the location of his place of business. And found out the next time he had a ship leaving port. On the day of the departure he slipped an emetic and some other nasty chemicals into his masters food to give him a horrible case of the flux, and slipped out of the house past the guards via the rooftops. By the time anyone realised he was missing he would be long gone. After making his way to the merchants he ad libbed a hiding spot amidst the goods and waited for the barge to sail for Port Nyanzaru.
Of course he was discovered pilfering food and hiding, but only after two days. The merchant was true to what Jacks insight had told him and had no love for slaving and took him to the the Port town where he was on his own with a flea in his ear and a couple of coppers. After that he lived on his wits, taking what was needed to live and having no sympathy for slavers
It is good that you came to Port Nyanzaru! It is a wonderful place. First of all, there are no Yuan-Ti! Sure, there are some. Once you noticed purebloods in the crowds. They look much like Chultans, but one who knows what to look for can sometimes tell. But they’re not looking for you. You know this because you followed some just 2 weeks ago and heard them whispering in strange dialect - These Yuan-ti aren’t from Delselar at any rate. They were talking about the withering sickness or something. The next best thing about Port Nyanzaru is the free living! Sun shines every day. Food is plentiful, and there are many games in town. “What’s caught in the net?” is a common phrase around here. Today, it’s Monkey Fruit. But it takes a certain kind of buyer to be looking for Monkey Fruit. Wakka promised that next week it would be wukka nuts - let’s hope. They’re a lot easier to sell. Wakka isn’t the most scrupulous of fishermen, but his net always contains interesting things.
You are spending time in Malar’s Throat today. Usually, you’ll get chased out of the markets in the city, and Malar’s Throat is bustling; that new Priestess of Tymora picked a lucky winner for today’s blessing, Wakka is meeting with some new guys down in the cellar (There he goes now - right on schedule). There’s a new young woman in town; a half elf with lots of money. She wears a dragon around her neck - not a lizard but a dragon, a talking one! She’ll probably be here. Everyone in town comes to Malar’s throat on Market day - Why would you want to be anywhere else?
