How do plants grow and what do they need to survive?
Week 3: April 20-24, 2020
This week we will be learning about plants, how they grow, and what they need to grow.
Take some time to explore the videos below that explore the different things that plants need to survive.
Plants need certain things to survive and grow, including: water, soil, light, and air.

Plants are the living things that grow and reproduce. Plants start their life from a seed and grow-up to become a mature plant.

Seeds
Seeds
Seeds are much like babies of the plants. Seeds contain the food and an outer coating for protection.
The seeds are spread across the land by many ways (river, air, animals, and humans).
Seedling
Seedling
First, it breaks the outer coating and begins growing its first roots and leaves.
When the first sign of life from a seed appears out of the soil, it is called seedling.
Mature Plants
Mature Plants
The seedling continues to grow to its full maturity.
Mature plants are ready to make flowers and new seeds.

In the coming weeks, we will be experimenting with growing our own plants using seeds and kitchen scraps. Keep checking back for new videos and activities to help grow plants using items we already have at home. Some of the different plants we will be trying to grow from foods scraps/seeds in our kitchens include strawberries, peppers, beans, tomatoes, onions, celery and lettuce.
