This is an opportunity for students to begin their apprenticeship while remaining in Secondary School, through the Co-operative Education program. Please see your Guidance counsellor, or Co-op teacher for more information.
Student Criteria:
• Students must be in Grade 12 or in their fifth year and working towards their OSSD. Students with an OSSD are not eligible to participate in Accelerated OYAP Level 1 classes.
• Students must have 26 credits with all compulsory credits achieved by the start of semester two.
• Students must be scheduled in Co-op for Semester Two (February 2026) and be at a placement that is able and willing to sponsor them as an apprentice in their selected trade. Students will be at the college full days and will not be able to attend classes at their home school from April to June.
• *New* Students must have hands-on experience in the trade to participate in Accelerated OYAP Level 1. This can be through a previous coop, a dual credit class, or employment.
• Students must be responsible and have strong independent study skills. The programs are college courses and they have a heavy workload. The Accelerated OYAP Level 1 is the first schooling block of an apprenticeship. For the students who prefer hands-on learning, they need to know that this is the first block of in-class training for their trade. If they would like to have more on-the-job experience before attempting the in-class training, they should consider staying at their coop placement as an apprentice and getting more skills signed off in their training standards logbook and completing the Level 1 training later in their apprenticeship. One apprenticeship pathway is not better than the other and both lead to the same goal of becoming a licensed journeyperson.
• Strong math skills are required. Electricians would benefit from having completed a senior physics course. Auto Service Technicians would benefit from having completed an electrical course.
• Students are required to attend all classes. Students who are not able to attend every day should not apply to the program. Attendance aligns with the number of hours required by the MLITSD and tracked by the college. Students who miss classes will not be eligible to earn their Level 1. Communication with professors and your OYAP coordinator is important.
• Students must have a social insurance number.
• Parent/Guardian signatures are mandatory for students under 18 years of age.

OYAP Level 1 Dual Credit Program Details:
• The Accelerated OYAP Level 1 Program is competitive and acceptance into the program is not guaranteed.
• Fanshawe College will hold a mandatory orientation evening for Accelerated OYAP students. Fanshawe’s orientation will be in-person on the evening Wednesday, March 25, 2026 at Fanshawe London.
• Program dates and locations vary depending on the trade. The Electrician program at Fanshawe College runs from April 20 to June 19, 2026. All other trades are at a Fanshawe campus and run from April 27 to June 19, 2026.
• Fanshawe will provide transportation for the students from a pick-up point to the college. Students are responsible for getting to the pick-up point on their own. Only London-based students attending a London campus will receive a LTC bus pass. More details about pick-up points will be available from the college at the orientation session at the end of March. Please note that parking passes or mileage will not be provided should a student decide to drive on their own.
• Students will not attend their home schools for the duration of the 8-9 week OYAP Level 1 Dual Credit Program.
• Students require a minimum mark of 60% at Fanshawe in each Level 1 program module to pass their Level 1. If unsuccessful in achieving their Level 1, students can still earn partial credits towards their OSSD. Upon successful completion of the program, students at Fanshawe will earn 2 dual credits in addition to their coop credits. Co-op Program Details:
• Co-op courses run from February to April 2026 and the Co-op placement must be able and willing to register the student as an apprentice before OYAP Level 1 begins. Students without a Registered Training Agreement with their placement will not be eligible to attend Level 1 classes.
• Students must be registered as an apprentice in the same trade as their Level One Dual Credit Course or a trade that shares the same Common Core Curriculum for Level 1.
Application Details:
• Equal Consideration Deadline for applications is WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 5, 2025.
• Applications received after these dates will be subject to seat availability for each Level One course. We share seats in each class with neighbouring school boards.
• Acceptances will be communicated to the teacher who submits the application. The teacher must inform the student of their acceptance status and communicate to coop and guidance teachers.
Students who are not accepted into Accelerated OYAP Level 1 can still become registered apprentices at their coop placements through their coop teacher if they have the support of their placement supervisor to be a sponsor. It’s a different pathway to the same goal of becoming a licensed journeyperson.
