Courses everyone has to take in grade 9
Students can choose from MTH1W single pathway/destreamed math or MAT1L Locally Developed
Students can choose from: SNC1W single pathway/ destreamed or SNC1L Locally Developed
Students can choose from ENL1W Single Pathway/ Destreamed or ENG1L Locally Developed
All students will take the same Single Pathway CGC1W Geography course
Students can choose from: FSF1D Single Pathway/Academic or FSF14 Locally developed (by recommendation)
Students can choose THREE of these plus TWO as their Alternate or 'back-up' courses
Students apply design principles when exploring the creative process
*You need 1 Arts credit to graduate
Students explore dramatic forms and techniques and work in groups to communicate through their dramatic works.
*Arts courses can lead to acceptance into an SHSM
Students will learn to perform on one instrument and present their pieces in a variety of creative ways. No experience required.
*You can also add band as an extra half credit- takes place Wed/Fri before school
This explores family, peer and personal dynamics and allows students to develop practical skills.
Building the Entrepreneurial mindset. Students will use software to plan and develop their ideas in order to present them to a large audience

Hard tech focuses on Auto, Construction and Manufacturing
*Can count as the required tech course in grade 9/10
Soft Tech focuses on Communications tech, computer tech and tech design
ONE physical and health education credit is required for graduation
This is an open course that focuses on healthy active living- students are encouraged to complete this in grade 9

Complete Online Pre-registration Tool for in area; print the Registration Form (out of area only!) and submit
Select Courses by printing, circling and emailing the Course Selection Form
Provide proof of address via email (e.g. copy of a utility bill, phone bill, rental agreement, etc)- can be submitted with online tool
Copy of most recent report card
Provide proof of citizenship via email (e.g. copy of passport, birth certificate, permanent residence)- can be submitted with online tool

SHSM is a ministry-approved program. SHSM students have the unique opportunity to gain sector specific skills in conjunction with earning both their Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD), and the SHSM designation upon graduation.
Students may apply in Grade 10, by speaking to either the Guidance Department or SHSM Teacher. Programs run in grade 11 & 12.
Four components:
Completion of a bundle of credits in their field, including a co-op placement
Certifications and Training
Experiential Learning & Career Exploration
Reach Ahead Experiences- College and University experiences

Overview of roles:
Guidance counsellors are available for social-emotional support, pathway/career/life planning, school support, and referrals to more specialized supports as needed.
The Student Success Teacher provides academic support for students in risk of not achieving credits through meetings, individual credit support and credit recovery.
The Learning Support Teacher is available for IEP support/updates, learning strategies, pathway planning for students with IEPs and classroom support.
Guidance Secretary can help with busing, school cash and parent portal questions. She also inputs community service hours and is happy to answer any student questions!

High School Here I Come! is a non-credit summer program for Grade 8 students who are starting at a TVDSB high school in September 2025. Students will be provided with a variety of learning skills and strategies designed to help them with their transition to secondary school.
