Requesting Delivery Blocks & Delivering On-Demand

Every market in the US operates a little bit differently. While some locations operate on an on-demand only model, other locations offer pre-scheduled delivery blocks, which partners can request in the Gopuff Driver app. To learn more about requesting delivery blocks and delivering on-demand, please check out the FAQs below.

How do  I request delivery blocks?

To preview and request delivery blocks, follow these steps:

When do I request blocks?

There are multiple opportunities throughout the week to request delivery blocks.

Any block that starts within 8 hours can be picked up by anyone on a first come, first serve basis.

Where can I view my upcoming scheduled blocks?

You can view your upcoming scheduled blocks in the 'Schedule' tab. Please note that blocks that start at midnight (12am) will start on the morning of the day indicated by your Schedule.

For example, if you have a scheduled block on Saturday from 12am - 3am, you are working for the first 3 hours of the day on Saturday morning. If you went online at 11:50PM on Saturday evening and worked until 3AM Sunday morning, this would be the wrong time.

I submitted my requests, now what?

If you request blocks for the following week, the 24-hour request window on Thursday closes at 11:59PM local time. On Friday morning, our system will process all the requests and automatically generate a schedule. You will get a notification on Friday when the schedule is ready for you to view. Delivery partners who did not submit any requests will not receive this notification, because they won’t have any blocks to view. However, everyone will receive a notification in the event that one of their locations has unrequested blocks that become available on a first-come, first-served basis.

If you request blocks for the current week, you’ll receive a notification within 30 minutes after making the request if the block is granted.

If I submit my request for the following week on Thursday, does it matter what time I submit it at?

Nope! As long as you get your requests in before 11:59PM local time on Thursday, you’re good to go. When distributing blocks, the system does not factor in what time the requests were made or who requested a particular block first. Any delivery blocks that are still available after the request period will be re-released on Fridays and can be picked up on a first-come, first-served basis.

How is the prioritization of delivery blocks determined?

In the event that more than one person requests the same block, delivery blocks will be automatically distributed in favor of delivery partners who showed up for the greatest percentage of their delivery blocks over the preceding 4 weeks.  A delivery partner will never receive two blocks that conflict with one another; for example, you won’t get a 12PM - 3PM block and a 2PM - 5PM block on the same day.

How will I know which blocks I got?

If you submitted on Thursday for the following week, you’ll get a notification on Friday morning when the block results are ready for you to view. Every delivery partner who requests a block will not necessarily receive a block.

If you requested blocks for the current week, you’ll receive a notification within 30 minutes after making the request if the block is granted.

With the new system, does the amount of blocks I've previously worked worked matter?

No. The system will not give priority to partners who have gotten more hours. Instead, it will look at the percentage of your committed hours you showed up for. A partner who has gotten 10 hours in the past 4 weeks and showed up for 100% of those hours will be in a similar position as a partner who got 40 hours and showed up for all of them.

Will I get all the blocks I requested?

Not necessarily. One of the goals of this new system is to give more delivery partners a chance at getting a desired delivery block. Oftentimes, there will be more than one delivery partner that requests the same block. When this happens, the system will prioritize the people who consistently show up for a higher percentage of their committed time over the preceding 4 weeks. Therefore, you will not necessarily get all of the blocks you requested.

What if I’m a new delivery partner?  Or what if I’m someone who typically chooses to work on-demand instead of during delivery blocks?

Our system strives to level the playing field so that a new partner who hasn't had a chance to work blocks in the past isn't at a disadvantage compared to those who have.

What can I do to improve my chances of getting more blocks in the future?

Delivery partners who consistently work a high percentage of their blocks are more likely to get one or more of their requested blocks. On the flip side, delivery partners who consistently fail to show up for those blocks without dropping them ahead of time are less likely to get a requested block, particularly when there is competition for those time periods. Delivery partners who serially no-show delivery blocks without dropping them ahead of time  are also at risk of having their Scheduler access temporarily restricted.  However, these partners remain free to deliver on-demand whenever they choose.

Is there a limit to how many blocks I can request?

While you can request as many blocks as you’d like (even if those blocks are overlapping), we ask – out of fairness to other partners and Gopuff customers – that you only request blocks you are willing and able to work. On Friday, the system will not give you 2 blocks that directly conflict with one another.

What if I don’t get any of my block requests?

Any delivery blocks that are still available after the request period will be re-released on Fridays and can be picked up on a first-come, first-serve basis. Additionally, you’ll have the opportunity to request blocks throughout the week if other partners decide to drop them. However, delivery blocks are not the only way to earn with Gopuff; you are always welcome to deliver on-demand by showing up to your location whenever you’d like and starting your delivery session in the app.

I got a delivery block! Where should I go to get started?

Your first stop will be the local Gopuff facility that you requested and received a block at. Make sure to arrive on time to maximize your earnings! The exact address for the facility you selected can be found in the Gopuff Driver app under Account --> Facility Information.

Once you arrive at the facility:

Please note that Gopuff Driver will only allow you to start your workday if you are physically at or nearby the facility, and you are only eligible to earn Wait Pay if you are delivering from the location you have a block at. If you have a scheduled  block at Location A, and then decide to deliver from Location B during that block, you will not be eligible for Wait Pay.

What if there are no delivery blocks available to request at my location this week?

Don't worry! Delivery blocks are not necessary in order to earn with Gopuff. In fact, you can deliver on-demand any time during your local facility's operating hours. To deliver on-demand, all you need to do is show up at your local facility and start your workday in Gopuff Driver. This will alert our system that you are onsite and available to receive orders.

I can't make it to my delivery block. What now?

Hey, life happens! If you are no longer able to work a scheduled delivery block, please drop it as soon as possible so that another partner can pick it up. Waiting until the last minute to drop your delivery block can take earning opportunities away from other delivery partners.

Not sure how to drop a delivery block? We’re here to help!

What happens if I can’t deliver during my delivery block and I forget to drop it?

We get it, plans change! However, if  this continues to happen, Gopuff will send you a warning email outlining the issue. If the pattern persists after the second warning email, Gopuff will temporarily restrict your access to reserving delivery blocks.

I got an email saying I can no longer reserve delivery blocks. Does that mean I can’t deliver with Gopuff anymore?

No, all delivery partners have the ability to deliver on-demand. While you won’t have access to delivery block reservations in the Gopuff Driver app, you’ll still be able to earn with Gopuff by delivering when you choose.

Can I grab a block without having to request it first?

Under certain circumstances, yes. Any block that starts within 8 hours can be picked up by anyone on a first come, first serve basis.

A Note About Delivery Block Selection

One of the best parts of delivering with Gopuff is that when it comes to your schedule, you have options.

If you want to work when you want – for as long or as little as you want – you have the option to deliver on-demand by simply showing up at your selected facility and beginning your delivery session in Gopuff Driver.

Alternatively, if you want to commit to longer delivery blocks, you may have the opportunity to do so by requesting those blocks in advance in Gopuff Driver. While pre-arranged delivery blocks are not required to earn with Gopuff, doing so may offer incentives such as Wait Pay.

With this in mind, if you receive a delivery block that you can no longer commit to, we ask that you drop your block in the Gopuff Driver app as soon as possible so that another partner can pick it up. Out of respect for the rest of the partner community, we ask that you drop it at least 2 hours before the start time.

If you repeatedly fail to show up for a delivery block or fail to drop it ahead of its start time, Gopuff may temporarily restrict your access to delivery blocks in the future.

On-Demand Deliveries

What does it mean to deliver on-demand?

If you want to work when you want – for as long or as little as you want – you have the option to deliver on-demand by simply showing up at your selected facility and beginning your delivery session in Gopuff Driver. You can deliver on-demand for 45 minutes or for 5 hours - it's up to you! Just make sure you end your delivery session in Gopuff Driver when you're ready to stop receiving orders.
