Courses Offered

The IB Diploma programme consists of the Diploma Programme Core (EE, CAS and TOK) along with six subject groups.  There are different subjects within each of the subject groups.  Students will take one subject from each group.  Students may choose to study an additional Science or an Individuals and Societies course instead of a course in the Arts.  (This choice will be based on availability due to scheduling).  Courses offered at Sydney Academy can be seen in the Diploma Programme Courses section under the Courses Offered drop down menu.

Students will take some subjects at the standard level (SL) and others at the higher level (HL).  HL and SL courses differ in scope but are measured according to the same grade descriptors, with students expected to demonstrate a greater body of knowledge, understanding and skills at higher level.  Students must take at least three higher level courses (but no more than four) to receive the IB Diploma.

Please note that students who do not wish to take the entire IB Diploma are able to take individual courses in IB and receive an IB Certificate after sitting for the IB exam in that subject at the end of grade 12.
