Learning goals for today's lesson:
I can find materials around my home.
I can identify that some objects are made with more than one material.
An object that is made with a few materials, e.g. a bike - metal frame, plastic pedals, rubber wheels, fabric seat or a kitchen chair - wood frame, fabric seat, steel screws.
A pencil and paper (crayons or colored pencils are optional)
Optional: magnifying glass
Show your child the object that was made with a few different materials.
Let your child use their own words to answer:
What materials were used to make this object?
Why do you think so many different materials were used?
You could ask a direct question, such as, if you showed your child a bike - Why are the wheels made with rubber and not metal?
Ask your child to look for an object around the house that is made with more than one material.
Optional: Give your child a magnifying glass to explore their object closely.
Once your child has had a good look, ask them to tell you all of the different materials that they see.
Why do you think those materials were used to build this object?
Ask your child to draw a picture of their object and label all of the different materials. Do not worry if your child can not write the words, ask your child to show you all of the materials in their picture. Well done!
Optional: Color the picture with crayons or colored pencils. Hang it on the fridge!
Hope you had fun today! See you tomorrow
