Seahawk Awards

Winit Certificates

Each students in Bluenose Academy will receive a Winit certificate. Winits are a way of recognizing the different activities that our students have participated in throughout the school year. Each Activity or event is represented with a special sticker on the Winit Certificate.

Each student will receive their Winit certificate in their report card at the end of the school year.

Extra-Curricular Awards

These awards are presented to no more than three members of each individual group. These awards are chosen and presented (when possible) by the supervisors of each group.

*Physical Education Award

The Physical Education Award is presented to one student in each class from Grades 2 to 9 who has truly enjoyed Physical Education class. These individuals give 100% and try each and every activity that is introduced in class.

Elementary Visual Arts Award

The Visual Arts Award is presented to one student in each class from Grades 2 to 6 who has shown a love for art and has attempted to expand their creative arts ability.

Music Award

The Music Award is presented to one student in each class from Grades 2 to 6 who has shown a love for music. This does not mean that the individual is the top singer or even the best player of an instrument.

*French Award

The French award is presented to one student in each class from Grades 4 to 9 who has shown a strong interest in learning the French Language.

Nova Scotia International Student Program Certificate

The Nova Scotia International Student Program Certificate is presented to international students who complete a year of study in the province of Nova Scotia.

NSSAF Exemplary Participation

The Nova Scotia School Athletic Federation Exemplary Participation Award is awarded to a male and female athlete for outstanding contribution to school sport. These athletes have demonstrated personal qualities and characteristics which are most admired and reflect the true value of participation in school sport.

NSSAF Outstanding Service Award

The Nova Scotia School Athletic Federation Outstanding Service Award is presented to a coach for outstanding contribution to school sport. This coach has demonstrated personal qualities and characteristics which are most admired and reflect the true value of participation in school sport.

NSSAF Good Sport Award

The Nova Scotia School Athletic Federation Good Sport Award is awarded to a male and female athlete whom “best demonstrate commitment to fair play, ethical behavior and integrity and who show respect and concern for others while participating in school sport.”

SSRSB Community Service Award

This award is presented to two students in Grade 6 for the recognition of good citizenship and contributions within their communities.

Bluenose Academy Volunteer Service Award

This award is presented to a student or students who have taken the time to give back to their school and community through volunteering their time.

Gold Standing - 60 + hours of volunteer service

Silver Standing - 40 - 59 hours of volunteer service

Bronze Standing - 20-39 hours of volunteer service

Participation Certificate - 1 - 19 hours of volunteer service

Please note that you must see the office for the required form to collect your hours for this award.

*Most Improved Award

The Most Improved Award is presented to one student in each class from Grades 2 to 9 who has shown great improvement throughout the year.

*SAC Academic Excellence Award

The Academic Excellence Awards is presented to one student in each Grade 2 to 9 class who has demonstrated outstanding academic achievement.

*Bluenose Academy Citizenship Award

The Bluenose Academy Citizenship Award is presented to one student in each class from Grades 2 to 9 who have demonstrated the qualities of good citizenship within their classroom and throughout our school. These individuals are caring, kind, helpful, patient, pleasant, dependable, responsible, fair and have a positive attitude.

Athlete of the Year:

The Bluenose Academy Athlete of the Year is presented to one female and one male student in Grade 9 who best exhibit the following qualities: Leadership, Commitment and a Positive Attitude both during the game and at school. They must work to the best of their ability academically and be involved in a wide variety of school-based activities. Along with this they must also show athletic ability and an appreciation for school sport and physical activity.

Bluenose Academy Scholar Athletic Award:

The Bluenose Academy Scholar Athletic Award is presented to a male and female in Grade 9 who has a minimum of 85% average in six subject areas. They must have participated at a District level at an NSSAF sanctioned event. Along with this they must also demonstrate outstanding leadership, athletic ability, sportsmanship and dedication during their middle school athletic career. Along with this award this student has also been nominated for the NSSAF Scholar Athlete Award.

Bluenose Academy Scholar Fine Arts Award:

The Bluenose Academy Scholar Fine Arts Award is presented to a student in Grade 9 who has a minimum of 85% average in six subject areas and has participated in at least one of the following extracurricular Fine Arts programs at Bluenose Academy: Band, Drama, Music or Art. Along with this, they must also demonstrate outstanding leadership, artistic/musical ability and dedication during their middle school fine arts career.

*Seahawk Pride Award

The Seahawk Pride Award is presented to one student in each class from Grades 2 to 9 who best represent the Triple A’s - Academic, Accountable and Active within our school.

* Please note that the Grade 9 Awards are presented during the Grade 9 Closing.
