On Wednesday, December 11th 2019 is an important day for MYP students from year 7 - year 9 because on that Global Jaya History Day (GHD) was held. The event will consist of exhibitions of students work from Year 7 - 9.
GHD is an event that celebrates student learning and promotes the importance of history and civic education. Students project are using the format of National History Day (NHD) and the theme for this year is : “Breaking Barriers in History”. The purpose of this event is to celebrate students critical thinking, writing and research skills, and boosts performance across all subjects. What makes GHD is interesting is that students can choose any topic based on their interest as long as it’s connected to the theme : “Breaking Barriers in History”. They can also decide whether doing this project alone, or teaming up with their classmates.
This event is to help students prepared to build upon the foundations of the past to continue to strengthen the democracy and economy of the future. Without the college- and career-ready skills of collaboration, research, writing and entrepreneurial thinking that come from the study of history and civics, students will not be prepared to handle impending—and complicated —global challenges.
Each year level have different product to showcase their findings :
During the exhibition student given a designated place to display their findings, and present it to audiences that comes to their booth. Year 10 is also participating in this event as judges, their divided into groups of 3 and they have to go to several booths from year 7 - year 9 and give score based on rubrics and criteria created by the I&S teachers.

Testimony
Ryan 8B GHD 2019
“I thought that GHD as a whole was a fairly fun and new experience for me, as I got to work closely with my partner (sometimes) and the planning and organization leading up to the exhibition and awards was quite exhilarating. I also learned a bunch of new facts about my topic. All round business moment’’
Heidri 8B GHD 2019
During GHD there was many things that I was able to learn more about such as different topics in history. It made the experience as a whole thrilling due to the different process as well as issues that had occurred during the process as well as the actual exhibition. Some issues that occurred during the event was that we had some trouble during the creation of our display. Due to the amount of time we had left to create the display we had to cramp the little time we had left into the project. Despite this the result of the display was still rather favorable and still was able to help show and explain our topic in history. The experience as a whole was a good way to learn more about and improve upon projects like these.
