On Wednesday, the 11th of December 2019, Year 6 students went to Museum MACAN to see paintings and other art forms. We went there so that we could see examples of art as a reference for our PYP exhibition. We saw many fun and cool things. There were so many beautiful and inspiring artworks and it was a really fun interactive place. Museum MACAN (from my and my friends’ point of view) was amazing!
In the morning, a lot of people were excited (I could tell). A few people have been to Museum MACAN before, and they were ecstatic to go there again, mostly because of this really pretty exhibit called The Infinity Room. There were a bunch of mirrors on the walls and hanging bulbs that can light up and change colors. It was very picturesque. Anyways, we were busy watching movies and chatting on the bus to notice that we arrived at the museum.
After we went inside the building and arrived at the actual museum (the building was very tidy by the way, and there were people standing near the walls looking at us. It looked like a Mission: Impossible or Ocean’s 11 scene). The museum was huge.. bigger than it looked from when you look at the outside of the building. The three classes were separated. I’m in 6B, so I only know what happened when my class was touring around. First we went to the paintings exhibit, which was on the second floor of the museum. There were a lot of interesting art, and the tour guide was very nice too. He explained a lot about the art work. My favorite painting in gallery was this one piece where the artist portrayed his family.
Next, we went downstairs and went to this really fun exhibit. The exhibit, I call “the paint everything like it’s the last thing you’re gonna do” exhibit. In “the paint everything like it’s the last thing you’re gonna do’’ exhibit, there were a bunch of giant paint and paintbrushes and you could paint that area’s wall, and there’s also a place where you can color and write on the walls. In the painting area you have to wear these hoods so the paint won’t get on you.
After that, my class went to the visitor - favorite exhibit, The Infinity Room. We had to wait in line and find partners to go into The Infinity Room. My partner and I were really excited. My partner wanted to take a lot of pictures but sadly they only let you in for around 1 minute. Most of that one minute was me and my partner freaking out about how pretty the room was. Then we had to go out to wait for our other friends going inside. The rest had to do this worksheet the teachers gave us to examine the art.
After everyone went in, we went to another exhibit, which was the most important exhibit that the museum had at that time. It was the Xu Bing exhibit. Xu Bing is a Chinese artist. He created a lot of pieces of art and then the museum put it in the exhibit. The first one was a sea of cigarettes. A lot of my friends liked that one. Then we saw a really cool one where he turned normal words into looking like Chinese characters. That was pretty creative. We got to try writing it in this one area, and it was pretty fun. Then we saw this place where we saw the creation of Chinese characters. Then we saw a bunch of other art but there is this one artwork worth mentioning. This one artwork, where trash was stuck behind paper and there was light shining through it, you could see the shadow from the front. It was cool. After everyone saw the exhibits, we were able to go about the museum freely for 45 minutes. My friend and I went to the painting exhibit first, then we lined up to go into The Infinity Room again. We didn’t dare go into the painting room, because a lot of the boys were lining up. After that we finished up and headed back to school. The trip couldn’t stay out of a few people’s minds.
