The climate is already changing - researchers suggested in 2023 that there was a 66% chance that the global temperature will have risen by an average of 1.5C between now and 2027.
The planet's temperature is easy to measure. There are hundreds of thousands of weather stations worldwide monitoring it. They are all telling the same story - the climate is changing rapidly.
The Welsh Government has a target of 2050 to achieve net zero (which is a state of balance where we remove the same amount or more carbon than we emit to the atmosphere). They also passed the Wellbeing of Future Generations Act in 2015, which sets a legal foundation for our climate efforts, mandating public bodies to consider the long-term impact of their decisions on future generations, embedding sustainability into all public work, including new laws.
