Grade 2

I use the Grade 2 technology classtime to introduce the students to fundamental skills and to give them an opportunity to practice the skills. In the coming years students will have these skills reinforced. The main goal is for the student to achieve familiarity and confidence with software and hardware. At the end of the year, they will have an awareness of how to use computing devices as learning tools. Below is a compliation of the Power Goals and Learning Targets for this year's units.

Power Goals

The student will demonstrate:

mouse skills with clicking, double-clicking, dragging and dropping;
the use of drawing tools;
placing textboxes on a page; and
use the special keys of the keyboard (space bar, shift keys, enter/return, backspace/delete and arrows).

Learning Targets

I can . . .

use a mouse or trackpad to click, double-click, drag and drop;
draw, resize and group shapes;
insert textboxes;
change the color of shapes;
use the special keys of the keyboard; and
use icons, windows and menus.

Power Goals

The student can demonstrate:

the ability to edit text;
how to highlight text; and
how to copy/paste and cut/paste.

Learning Targets

I can . . .

use the special keys on the keyboard to move my insertion point around the screen and to correct mistakes, or to make changes to words and sentences;
use a mouse to highlight text;
copy and paste; and
cut and paste.

Power Goals

The student can demonstrate:

use of an age-appropriate digital and non-digital tool to design something; and
awareness of the step-by-step process of designing.

Learning Targets

I can . . .

use a simple CAD program;
create a new design;
place and use shapes on the workplane;
group shapes into a single object; and
export my object as an .stl file.
