Welcome to my Virtual Counseling Classroom. Take some time to explore by clicking on the objects. Relax by watching the jellyfish in my tank, a glitter bottle, candle, or watch the snow fall on the lake through the window. This year, we are going to learn about a lot of different things and skills by reading stories about our friends in the circus. This first story is about the first day of Circus School and all the feelings that go along with that. After reading the story, think about how you felt on your first day of school this year. Were you nervous, excited, happy, scared, etc? Then draw a picture of your favorite thing so far this school year or draw a picture of your face that shows how you felt on your first day of school.
Last, watch the clip from the movie Inside Out about Riley's first day at school. Did you have any of the same feeling as Riley on your first day?
We're back at circus school! Today we will learn about goals. Do you know what a goal is? Calvin has a goal. Read the following story and learn about his goals and how he feels.
Click the link to hear a story about Enna and how she learns about goals. We have goals because we can't always do everything right now, but want to someday. See what Enna learns.
Last, draw a picture of a goal you have for this school year! Do you want to learn to tie your shoes, learn to read, or something completely different? Send me a picture of your goal through email if you want to share!
This week is about feelings. I have included links to watch and listen to two different books being read to you. After the videos there are some questions to think about.
Questions to think about:
Did you know that there are no bad feelings? It’s true! As long as we have safe and respectful ways to handle all of our feelings, no feelings are bad feelings!
When you feel sad/mad/angry/frustrated, what can you do to help your body feel better?
What makes you feel sad/mad/happy/frustrated/ excited/proud/angry/worried/brave/joyful/etc.?
Finally, draw a picture that represents how you are feeling right now! I'd love to see what you draw if you feel like sharing. Take a photo and email it to me at amountain@gilesk12.net
This week is about success and making sure we are ready for success as we learn new things in school. We're back at Circus school to learn all about this skill! After the story, see if you can answer the questions.
When Edgar was having a hard time with his elephant Ellie, who did he ask for help?
Who can you ask for help if you are having a hard time?
What did Edgar do while Ringmaster Harper was talking that helped him to be successful?
What can you do to be ready for success in your class?
Listen to the book "The Bad Seed" being read to you. It is one of my favorite books! After you listen to the story, draw a picture that shows what you think it means to be a "good seed."
Listen to the book "I Am Human." It's a good reminder that although we all have differences, we are all still human and need to treat each other well. We also need to treat ourselves well and know that it is ok to make mistakes! After you listen to the book, in the first worksheet you can write answers to the questions or draw a picture that answers it. The last three worksheets are coloring sheets you can choose to print and color.
Back to Circus school for this week's lesson on kindness. It's important to be kind each day. See how the clowns at circus school show kindness. There are 3 ways. Try to name them all at the end. Then draw a picture of a way you have been kind this week!
This is Red Ribbon Week. This week we focus on the importance of not using drugs or alcohol. That's why we are having all these fun dress up days to remind us! Watch the videos below to learn more.
This week is about bullying and standing up for yourself and also others too. Watch the author of the book One read it aloud while some students act out the book. See if you recognize the bad behaviors and how we can learn to stand up for others.
With next week being Thanksgiving, it's a good time to think about all the things you are thankful for! Click on the link below to make your own "Thankful Turkey". I hope you enjoy!
Kindness and showing kindness is always a great topic so we can remember every day to be kind to each other! Listen to the wonderful story "Kindness is my Superpower". Can you think of 3 ways you have been kind this week?
We are continuing with kindness this week. Listen to another wonderful book about how simple it can be to show kindness. Make a goal of 2 ways you can show kindness this week!
It's a new year and with that comes a time that many people like to think about the last year and think about what you want to do this new year. Use the sheets below to set goals for this new year and then think back on the last year. You can have someone help you write it or draw pictures instead.
Here is a new virtual room for you to explore. Click around on the objects and if you want to send me a message click the mailbox.
Next week is Random Acts of Kindness week. I am attaching the flyer for what act is designated for each day. Think what you can do for each day!
See if you can complete all the activities on the choice board by the end of the week.
Back to circus school! Teamwork is the focus this week. After reading the story(having someone read it to you) can you think of ways you use teamwork here at school? What about at home?
This week we go to circus school to learn about responsibility. Do you know what that word means? See if you can figure it out from the story. After the story can you name three ways you can be responsible at school and home?
This week we have a story from circus school about apologizing. When you do something wrong or hurt someone's feelings you need to say you are sorry. Read the story and see how Eunice and Bruno handle an apology.
This week we are looking at ways we are lucky! Listen to the story Spoon and then use the hearts to list reasons you are lucky to be you.
