Watch the introduction video of me.
Then, move on to the virtual classroom and the work from home slideshow.
Welcome to my Virtual Counseling Classroom. Take some time to explore by clicking on the objects. Relax by watching the jellyfish in my tank, a glitter bottle, candle, or watch the snow fall on the lake through the window. Take some time to learn about bullies and send me a message by clicking on the mail in the mailbox or do a feelings check in by clicking on the poster. Most everything is clickable! Give it a try!
This week we are going to focus on feelings and ways we can deal with different feelings. All feelings are ok to have! Making sure you handle those feelings respectfully and responsibly though is important! When you click the link below, you will be asked to make a copy and then as you click through the presentation, there are parts for you to move around and questions to respond to. I hope you have fun with learning about new ways you can deal with your feelings!
Coping strategies are the focus for the week. When we have feelings that are the kind that make us feel bad, or sad, or mad, etc., it's a good idea to try to get rid of that feeling so we have a better day if we can. This activity will present you with scenarios that happen and a feeling associated with that. Think of what you'd do in each situation to try to feel better. On the pumpkins are different ideas that may fit the situation and help you take your mind off the bad feeling. Drag those pumpkins you would use into the wagon for each scenario. At the end are slides where you will type your response. Enjoy! Try out some of the ideas in real life the next time you are angry or sad.
Next week is Red Ribbon Week. If you remember from other years, that week is about learning to stay drug free. We celebrate by having dress up days which we will do again this year. Watch the videos below about the importance of not using drugs. Then see if you can come up with ways drugs affect your body, family and friends, school, and community.
Disagreements and empathy is the topic this week. Disagreements are a part of life and learning how to handle those is important. One way to handle them is to have empathy. Watch the video below about this topic.
I'm not going to tell you what the topic or focus is this week. I'd like for you to listen to the book "The Invisible Boy" and see if you can figure out what lesson(s) I want you to learn from it. Enjoy!
Kindness is our topic this week. It can be really simple to be kind, but sometimes we all overlook these easy ways to show kindness to others. Listen to the book below and think of ways you can show kindness to others this week. See if you can come up with at least 3 ways and give them a try!
It's a new year and with that comes a time that many people like to think about the last year and think about what you want to do this new year. Use the sheets below to set goals for this new year and then think back on the last year.
Here is a new virtual room for you to explore. Click around on the objects and if you want to send me a message click the mailbox.
See if you can complete all the activities on the choice board by the end of the week.
This week we are focusing on Career Awareness. As part of this, fill out the blank future application. I have included an example of one so you can get an idea of what to do. After you complete your application, search the internet for the career you listed and see what qualities and characteristics those in that career have. See if their strengths and interests match what you put on your application. You may also want to search for careers that do match what you put you are interest in. For example, if you put English as one of your academic interests, type in Google "careers for people who like English." See if any careers come up that you haven't thought about, but may be interested in. Have fun!
Respect. Watch the video about respect and then think of a time where you didn't show respect. What happened? How could you change that now and do things differently in order to show respect? Next, think of ways you can show respect daily here at school and at home.
