Week 2

English Language Arts

May 11-15

1. Dictation Sentences: We've finished all our Alphafriends, so this week we start dictation sentences to put together all your child has learned about writing so far. Read 2 sentences a day for your student to write. This time, they don't get to just copy them! The idea is for them to listen and sound out words, then capitalize the first word, form letters correctly, write neatly, put finger spaces between words, spell sight words correctly, and use the proper punctuation at the end of each sentence. It's a culmination of all they should know about writing and they should be able to do it on their own. Mistakes will be expected at first and that's ok! (Please allow a sight word list to be available so they can spell those words correctly--the other words can be sounded out and it's ok if they not totally correct, but in "kid spelling" 😉) See a picture of my example below.

Take pictures of completed sentences to post in your student's Class Dojo portfolio. Also, video record your student reading their completed sentences back to you and post that in their portfolio as well.

Monday: 1. The man is my dad. 2. I like my mom.

Tuesday: 1. That cat was fat. 2. We are in a van.

Wednesday: 1. This pan is hot 2. We need a fan.

Thursday: 1. She likes to get tan. 2. We need a big dog.

Friday: 1. Are you sad now? 2. Are you mad at me?

2. Handwriting Without Tears Book: Complete pages 40, 41, 66, 67, and 76 this week to practice correct letter formation. Try for one page per day. Follow along with my videos below.

Take pictures of completed pages to post in your student's Class Dojo portfolio. Also, video record your student reading the words and sentences on the pages and post that in their portfolio as well.

May 11-15

1. Module 5 Book, Lessons 1-5, pages 3-31. There is an Application Problem, a Problem Set, and an Exit Ticket for each lesson. See my lesson videos below.

2. Homework Succeed book, Module 5, Lessons 1-5.

3. Practice adding and subtracting with numbers to 5 (2+3, 5-3, 2+1, 4-1, etc.) Check out the adding and subtracting with pirates videos below.

4. Practice all the ways we know how to count to 100, recognize numbers 0-31, and understand teen numbers. Use flashcard and video resources provided here and on the Everyday Practice pages.
