The artifact I chose to include is the Constructivist Unit. A constructivist classroom has a teacher that guides student knowledge and learning rather than giving classroom lectures. Students are actively engaged in learning through individual, partner and group work. My constructivist unit is for Social Studies where students learn about the events that occurred on September 11, 2001 (9/11). I chose this artifact since it demonstrates the objectives of this course. Many multimedia components are integrated throughout the unit while keeping all of the learning and activities student-centered and actively engaged throughout the learning process. Students show the amount of prior knowledge they have by filling out an anticipation guide prior to starting the unit. Students fill out the same anticipation guide at the end of the unit to show the knowledge they have gained, along with completing a final project with student choice. Also found in my constructivist unit are the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) showing how my unit aligns with the fifth grade CCSS and fifth grade social studies curriculum.
