The artifact I chose to include is the Balanced Literacy Professional Growth Plan. When choosing an area of Balanced Literacy to focus on, I looked for an area where my school and district as a whole need to grow in, as well as myself. My professional growth plan focused on the balanced literacy component, Word Study, while integrating the "6-Ts". The six Ts are time, tasks, test, texts, teach, and talk. I collaborated with two colleagues to develop this plan. I chose to include my Balanced Literacy Professional Growth Plan as my artifact for this course since it embodies the focus of this course and shows that I am able to identify areas of growth for myself, as well as, my school and district. Our district teaches word study through the Words Their Way curriculum. My hope is that this plan addresses why educators need to focus more on word study and less on the generic spelling lists and tests. Within this plan, the definition of word study and the importance of word study are included along with identified struggles and obstacles to overcome, word study strategies and best practices.
