I chose to include two artifacts to represent my learning from EDUC 605 since I have referred to more than one piece of work I have completed through this course throughout this course's section of the portfolio. All of these artifacts were chosen because they consist of analyzing student needs and being an inclusive classroom.
I chose to include the Co-Teaching Plan research paper as an artifact since it reflects my expansion of knowledge of instructional strategies. The co-teaching model allows for a fully inclusive classroom that meets the needs of all students with the support of another adult within the classroom. Supports that would typically be in the form of pull-out services are instead "pulled into" the classroom for all students to benefit from. There are six different co-teaching models that can be utilized within the general education classroom. This artifact allowed me to take a closer look at the co-teaching model and reflect on the importance of providing the same opportunities for all students. It also allowed me to think critically about which models I could implement in my classroom. I analyzed all of the different co-teaching models, how to implement co-teaching, the supports needed to be successful, how to evaluate the co-teaching model, the benefits of co-teaching, and co-teaching barriers that may arise during implementation and solutions for them.

This artifact, UDL-ized Unit/Lesson Plan, I chose to include because it consists of using the Universal Design for Learning guidelines and principles to develop a unit/lesson plan for the inclusive general education classroom to meet the needs of all students and give a wide range of choice. This plan is focused on a research project for a preset topic, Major U.S. Events/Wars. This plan is based on a Social Studies unit I did with my students last year and plan to do again. Last year, this was a research project that the students had more choice than usual with. I learned that much of what I did last year when actually doing this with my class was following some of the principles of UDL, but not to the fullest extent that I could have been. I re-evaluated this unit plan and included more of the UDL principles. The UDL additives into the unit are the parts highlighted throughout the artifact. This plan utilizes technology and integrates different teaching methods to reach all learners.
