The artifact I chose to include is the Multimedia Project. This activity consisted of utilizing a multicultural book to create a unit plan based around the book. I chose the book The Go-Between by Veronica Chambers. This project incorporated the four roles of readers to develop comprehension which are: code breaker, text user, meaning maker, and text critic. Incorporating these roles allowed me to reflect on the importance of teachings students to dive deeper into a text and think critically about it. This project integrated technology and used different teaching methods to reach all learners. It also includes a wide range of activities to build student background knowledge and especially make connections to the text at a deeper level using the four roles. It is important for the students to use their background knowledge and inference skills to decode unfamiliar vocabulary and new concepts mentioned in the book. Students are able to make personal connections with the text through the meaningful activities that I have created in this unit. The students will participate throughout this unit with classmates in partners, small groups, and whole class discussions.
