The best parts of college is to interact with and meet people with different backgrounds from you. I'm sure we have all come across some time where we met people from different countries and who speak different languages.
One experience that I had with this was when I went to Korea. I have been learning Korean for about a year and going there helped expand my vocabulary and get used to the way people talk there. Their behaviors are also way different there then here in America. They stand really close to people in Korea and some people would say they are rude. In general they are but their are a few nice ones I came across. This experience changed my perspective on things because I learned how to cope and get used to different ways of communicating and come across "out of my norm" backgrounds. Another experience is when I got to college. Joining clubs and sports really opened up a door to diverse people and its really nice getting to know all types of peoples backgrounds and interests.
I feel like cultural awareness is important because you can recognize and appreciate others differences. It can lead to more connections and can provide important economic and social benefits. So I would strongly suggest getting out your shell and doing it. You could end up making many friends from it.
