University Learning Centers
[ UNDERGRADUATE ]
Overview: The ARC provides in-person appointments primarily for traditional undergraduates. Zoom appointments are available if necessary. If you want to require ARC appointments for student writing assignments, email the_arc@georgefox.edu to make arrangements. We want to coordinate timing and student numbers to ensure we have capacity. Student support staff can visit classes to provide students with an overview of ARC services. Math and Sciences have their own help labs.
Overview: If you have incoming undergraduate students, you will receive an Early Progress Check email toward the end of the third week of each semester. There is a Textbook Assistance Fund for undergraduate students. For more information, visit the Student Support Network page.
[ GRADUATE ]
Portland Writing Center (PWC) website
Overview: The PWC primarily uses Zoom writing consultations with an option for asynchronous feedback. The center focuses on graduate and GFC students; if desired, these students may schedule in-person appointments with the ARC (on the Newberg campus).
The Student Life Office has put together an incredible resource at a glance for faculty working with students who could be struggling. If you're not sure who to call or contact, you can start with this guide.
What is Kortext?
Kortext is a leader in ebook delivery, trusted by over 7,000 campuses and 3 million students globally. The Kortext platform offers students:
· Smarter study tools like shared annotations, interactive notetaking, and natural-sounding AI-powered text-to-speech.
· Anytime, anywhere access to learning materials with native apps for iOS, Android, Windows, and Mac, plus offline reading.
· A built-in library of 20,000+ OER materials to offer you and your students free access to supplemental resources.
· Robust security and privacy, with in-country infrastructure, ISO 27001 certification, and compliance with state and federal regulations.
What does this mean for you and your students?
For Students: Students will purchase ebooks and digital course materials in store or online, just as they do today. Once purchased, students will access their materials in a familiar way—via a code on their receipt, an order status email, or a direct login at read.kortext.com. Students who participate in an access program will have their digital materials also available in the LMS using the “My Materials” link that is globally available in the LMS.
For Faculty: Faculty can continue selecting and assigning course materials as usual. ISBNs remain the same and the content on Kortext will be the same.
Starting in the upcoming term, you will no longer need to copy the Brytewave LTI tool into your courses. Our campus is moving to a globally accessible “My Materials” link that will provide all students with access to their content – whether it’s hosted on Brytewave or Kortext.
How can I learn more about Kortext?
Review the following video that covers the key features of the Kortext platform: Kortext Introductory Video.
Read the series of articles that go into more detail on each of the Kortext features.
How can I acquire a desk copy of my materials on Kortext?
Kortext desk copies are available within the bookstore Adoption tool by searching for any title and choosing “Open Desk Copy.” Step-by-step instructions are available on the faculty help portal.
If your course is participating in an access program, Follett will automatically provide desk copies of any materials adopted into the program. You will receive an email prior to the start of the term with instructions on how to access your materials.
Where should I go for help?
Follett support is available to assist you and your students with any issues by visiting support.follett.com.
