StuBio is the faculty student council (FSR) for bioengineering sciences, which includes the Bioengineering Sciences programme at the Coupure campus; Industrial Engineering: Biosciences at the Schoonmeersen campus; and Industrial Engineering: Bio-Industrial Sciences at the Kortrijk campus.
We consist of student representatives (StuVers) from all programmes. StuVers sit on all kinds of committees and councils where we provide input and raise concerns on behalf of our students.
StuVers meet monthly at the General Assembly (GA), organised by the Daily Board. Here, committees and student concerns are discussed. This usually results in an action plan that can be implemented by the DB, assisted by other StuVers.
The Faculty Council is the highest decision-making body at the faculty. This is where all important final decisions put forward by the various committees are made.
Ten student representatives sit on the Faculty Council, defending the interests of all students at our faculty. It is also a place of cooperation between all groups to make the faculty as a whole a better place.
Each programme has a Programme Committee (OC) consisting of Stuvers who discuss initial problems with a subject or lecturer. An overview of all OCs can be found here.
The General Assembly is the most important body of the Ghent Student Council and consists of 20 voting members. These are the central student representatives of the Social Council, the Board of Directors and the Executive Board, together with one representative from each faculty. At the General Assembly, positions are taken and approved, projects can apply for financial support, and the budget is approved. The meeting is chaired by the president of the Ghent Student Council and takes place every three weeks. The meeting is open to all students of Ghent University.
The Board of Directors is the highest governing body of Ghent University. It is composed of representatives of, among others, the academic staff and the students. The four students on the Board of Directors are elected directly by all students every two years. The Board of Directors has full authority and determines the mission and strategic policy of Ghent University. The Board of Directors is also responsible for Ghent University's budget.
The Social Council is responsible for advising the Board of Directors and the Executive Committee on social matters. Social facilities for students (homes, restaurants, etc.) are the most important component of this for students and the Ghent Student Council. In addition to the four students from the Board of Directors, the Social Council also includes four other elected student representatives, the student administrator and a representative of the meeting of convention presidents.
The Executive Board is, after the Board of Directors, the highest administrative body at Ghent University. It only has the powers assigned to it by the Board of Directors. The powers of the Executive Board are particularly wide-ranging, from approving the appointment of lecturers to approving educational innovation projects. The Executive Board includes a student appointed by the student section of the Board of Governors.
The Education Council is the university-wide body that advises other bodies at Ghent University (Board of Directors, Executive Committee, etc.) on educational matters. Its advice covers a wide range of topics, from the OER (Education and exams regulations) to educational quality assurance. This body consists of eight students, who are appointed by the Ghent Student Council.
