Now that Rikki-Tikki-Tavi has been covered, your new story is All Summer in a Day. Here is a summary of it to help you understand it before you read and the do the assignment.
----- SUMMARY -----
All Summer in a Day is about a group of people who live on the planet Venus. In this story, it rains there every day and the sun only comes up once for two hours every seven years. The story begins in a classroom with children who are nine years old. Margot is one of those children. She is different from the others because she was born on Earth. The rest of the children were all born on Venus and they have no recollection of the sun from when they were two years old.
Margot had lived on Earth until she was four and so she remembers what the sun is like. In the story, the children are waiting for the rain to stop and for the sun to come out. Margot tries to convince the others that she remembers the sun. The other children don’t believe her and they bully her. They lock Margot in the closet.
Then the sun comes out. The children are so happy. They run outside and play many games. Two hours later, the rain begins again and they run back inside. When they get back to safety, one of them remembers Margot. They forgot about her in the closet. All they can do at that point is let her out.
