Lectures from in-house experts that occur Jan-Mar, on the 3rd Wednesday of the month at midday. No RSVP required!
Lectures about popular science topics that occur May-Jul on the 3rd Wednesday of the month in the evening. No RSVP required!
Discussions on the inner-workings of NHMU that occur in Apr & Aug on the 3rd Wednesday of month in the evening. No RSVP required!
Cafe-style science events that occur Sept-Nov on the 3rd Wednesday of the month in the evening. No RSVP required!
Behind-the-scenes tours and informal conversations with staff that occur the 4th Saturday morning of the month. Currently virtual, so no RSVP required!
Monthly staff and volunteer workshops to build capacity in Inclusivity, Diversity, Equity, and Access at NHMU.

The Gallery Programs Department offers regular continuing education opportunities to their volunteers that are specific to their roles in the galleries. These opportunities are posted on the Bone Up page, and can be counted as "Continuing Education" hours for Gallery Programs volunteers (Gallery Interpreters, Tour Guides, and Animal Handlers).
Many of these programs are recorded, and recordings are available in the Archives pages of this Portal. Watching recordings of these programs is not eligible to be counted as service hours at this time.

As a point of clarification, any time that volunteers spend training for their volunteer roles should be counted as service hours under that specific volunteer assignment, not under "Continuing Education."

Each year, DinoFest features keynote lectures and DinoBites short lectures from a variety of paleontology experts. You can enjoy these lectures in person at the DinoFest events, or you can watch them online afterward. You can find recordings of all of our past DinoFest lectures here.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Volunteer Program created a number of crossword puzzles to help volunteers test their knowledge on the content of our galleries while the Museum was closed. The Diversity and Inclusion Committee at NHMU has curated a list of great resources to learn about diversity, inclusion, equity, and access as it relates to our work at the Museum, and the communities we serve. All of these resources are available to check out from the Marriott Library on campus at the U. Volunteers with active UCards can use the library at any time. Volunteers who wish to access this resource but don't have UCard should talk to the Volunteer Program Manager to get access.
