Summer camp is a great opportunity for students to get outdoors and explore new things.
Summer camps, especially those where campers stay overnight, have many benefits for children and families. Students build social skills, experience new activities and people, spend time in nature, increase their confidence, and have a break from their primary caregivers (which builds independence and can be a respite for families).
Traditional summer camps are not always a great fit for students with disabilities so I have complied a list of adapted and inclusive summer programs that may be of interest to GCISD Special Services families.
Check out American Camp Association, a resource for parents of children with disabilities selecting a camp for their child for the first time.
Does your child attend a camp or summer program you love that is not listed? Please email me at don.gilley@gcisd.net so I can include it!
