I hope you all enjoy seeing the wonderful things your student is doing in GT LEAD!
Students described the characters internal and external traits from multiple perspectives and identified the story elements. They identified attributes of 3D shapes and analyzed how shapes can be used in building castles
Students identified the general rules of a system and identified systems around the school. Students used what they learned about systems to build a car.
Students can understand forces at work during flight and examined the power necessary to take flight. They analyzed the historical significance of discoveries in flight.
Students utilized the design process to evaluate and improve paper airplanes.
Students can explain the vocabulary (monument, critical element, identity, symbolism, character attributes). They brainstormed and used graphic organizers to decide what critical elements of themselves to represent in their monument. Students designed and created a monument based on the parameters and materials available. They will use presentation skills to present their monument to the class.
Students determined a SMART goal. They created an icon and a mini poster explaining how their icon represents the power of yet, growth mindset or perseverance. Students created a final product of their choice to present their YET to the class using presentation skills.
Check out all th fun the Third Grade GT LEADers had at the C.R. Smith Museum and Founders’ Plaza by looking through the pictures below!
No school Oct. 9, then I will be out for my sisters wedding. I will make up my minutes with each class throughout the upcoming weeks!
The trip to the C.R. Smith Museum was AMAZING!. They explored the interactive permanent exhibits covering the history of American Airlines and the evolution of commercial aviation. They also participated in a STEM workshop that is aviation based and focuses on building things that fly, discussing the forces involved, and learning about the foundations of flight. Founders’ Plaza for a picnic lunch while watching planes take-off and land and listening to the air traffic control communications from the FAA tower was truly an AMAZING experience!

The GT Challenge is back! I am continuing the GT challenge for ALL my classes! I will continue to send home weekly math puzzles! If students complete the puzzles correctly they can get something out of my prize box! With that being said, I teach 6 grade levels and will need to replenish my prize box often! If you would like to donate anything to my prize box, my students and I would greatly appreciate it! I have added some ideas to my wishlist, however you can also choose items your student(s) would work towards!
For those who are new to the GT LEAD Program, Here is how it will work:
They will receive a packet the first day of each week that they see me.
Students will work through the puzzles on their own time. This can be at home, recess, free time in class, etc.
Packets are dow back on or before the first day they see me the following week.
Students can stop by anytime. If I am unavailable, they can slide it under my door. Be sure they have their name on it!
Once they have completed all the puzzles correctly, they receive a prize out of my treasure chest.
This will continue weekly throughout the school year.

When parenting a gifted/talented child, it is important to factor in the social/emotional well-being, as well as to look ahead and plan down the road several years. I am here to advocate for your children, as well as to be a resource for you to other opportunities within our district. One way you can stay connected and advocate for your child is through SAGE (Supporting and Advocating for Gifted Education), our parent advocacy group for gifted learners. They often bring in guest speakers, invite representatives for camps/programs to share, and provide scholarships for teachers to attend gifted conferences. Please consider joining this dynamic group by clicking on the link below.
