PRAKL Age Group Invitational Water Polo Tournament 16-17 November 2024
Competing in the PraKL Age Group Invitational Tournament for the first time, representing GIS, was an eye-opening and challenging experience. Stepping onto the water polo stage for the first time, especially against teams made up of national and state-level players, was both thrilling and intimidating. We knew it was going to be tough, but we were determined to give it our all. Facing off against teams that had years of experience under their belts such as national and state players, we quickly realized just how much we still had to learn. However, through grit, determination, and teamwork, we managed to make significant strides over the weekend, and by the end of the tournament, we could visibly see improvements in both our individual and collective performances.
The first game was particularly challenging. As we struggled to keep up with the pace, it became apparent that our defense needed improvement. Our opponents’ fast breaks and precision shots put our goalkeeper under a lot of pressure, and our attackers had difficulty breaking through their solid defense. But despite the setbacks, we never lost hope. Each quarter, we adjusted our strategies, communicated more effectively, and tried to build better teamwork. Though we didn’t win, we were proud of how we kept fighting throughout the game.
As the tournament progressed, we could feel our confidence growing. We began to make fewer mistakes and to trust each other more. Our defenders became more aggressive, closing down shooting lanes, while our attackers started to find better spaces and angles to work with. We were slowly starting to play the game at a higher level. The highlight of the weekend was when we started to connect on our passes and set up better offensive plays. Even though we weren’t always able to convert on every opportunity, we were creating more chances and making the games more competitive.
Despite facing tough losses, the experience was invaluable. We understood that competing at this level would require even more dedication and hard work. The tournament wasn’t just about the scoreline; it was about learning from every match, adapting quickly, and pushing ourselves beyond our limits. It was tough, but we fought with everything we had, and that effort will serve as the foundation for our future success.
In the end, we finished 3rd place in the Boys U18 with our Captain Zahn Yang Kuan being the MVP of the last game, Rock Zhou one of the Best Goalkeepers, Aloysius Lee, and Jaydrien NG MPP (Most Promising Player U18).
Thank you to parents, Coach Jose, and team mates for all their support.

Feeding Frenzy December 2023
In December, our GIS Dragons made an indelible mark at the Feeding Frenzy Swim Meet, showcasing their prowess in the pool with an outstanding performance. The team, consisting of 18 talented swimmers, exhibited exceptional skill and determination, achieving personal best in nearly every event they participated in.
Masato emerged as the star of the competition for GIS, securing a remarkable haul of 8 individual medals and contributing to an additional relay 3rd place. His stellar performance was nothing short of extraordinary, setting the tone for the GIS Dragons' success. Following closely in the medal standings were Finlay and Qin Lynn, who demonstrated exemplary swimming prowess and contributed significantly to the team's overall success.
Our GIS Dragons clinched the 3rd position in the overall average points scorers ranking, a testament to their collective dedication and skill. The team's remarkable achievements not only underscore their commitment to excellence but also highlight the good preparation ahead of important dates coming up in Term 2 and Term 3. Apart from the swimming success, our GIS swimmers had a great time in Bangkok!

The first happened on the 14th October in Putrajaya, an open water swimming event in the lake, where different teams fought for the top 10 positions in different distances (500m, 1Km, 2Km, 4Km).

Last weekend took place, also in Putrajaya, the Aquafest with Open Water Swimming 16Km on Saturday, around Putrajaya lake, where Coach Jose finished 2nd overall in 3hours 19minutes. Sunday was the Aquathlon day, with Kobus Elbers (Y8) and Jacob Nides (Y9) racing in the Super Sprint Distance (500m Swim + 2,5Km Run) in a very competitive event.
