Nature of the Subject
This course offers students the opportunity to build competence and confidence in their use of techniques and mathematical understanding. Students will study a range of mathematical topics that will help to develop their reasoning, problem-solving and analytical skills. They will be able to use these skills to develop a feel for patterns and relationships. Throughout this course, students will understand how crucial Mathematics is in everyday life as we will explore how they can use the skills they learn in real-life contexts.
Syllabus & Content
All students will cover the following topics: Number, Algebra and graphs, Coordinate geometry, Geometry, Mensuration, Trigonometry, Vectors and transformations, Probability and Statistics.

Assessment
This course consists of 4 exams. Students will need to take 2 out of the 4 exams. One exam will be non-calculator and one will allow the use of a scientific calculator. Students following the Core Syllabus will take Paper 1 and 3. Students following the Extended syllabus will take Paper 2 and 4.
Paper 1 (Core) – Non-calculator – 1 hour 30 minutes – 50% of course
Paper 2 (Extended) – Non-calculator – 2 hours – 50% of course
Paper 3 (Core) – Calculator – 1 hour 30 minutes – 50% of course
Paper 4 (Extended) – Calculator – 2 hours – 50% of course
Teacher Introduction
The IGCSE Mathematics course will prepare students for the use of maths in every aspect of further study, whether this is statistics or sophisticated equations.
The extended course is the perfect preparation for AS-Level Mathematics in Year 12.
