Coordinated Science
Coordinated Science
Nature of the Subject
The IGCSE Coordinated Science course is a double award course. It encompasses the three sciences, Biology, Chemistry and Physics. It gives the students a solid understanding of the world around them and teaches students the art of critical thinking and problem solving in the context of deepening their understanding of the universal forces which shape the Earth and all the biochemical process that occur here.
Syllabus & Content
Biology
Characteristics of Living Organisms, Cells, Biological Molecules, Enzymes, Plant Nutrition, Animal Nutrition, Transport, Gas Exchange & Respiration, Coordination & Response, Reproduction, Inheritance, Organisms & Their Environment, Human Impacts on the Environment.
Chemistry
The Particulate Nature of Matter, Experimental Techniques, Atoms, Elements & Compounds, Stoichiometry, Electricity & Chemistry, Energy Changes in Chemical Reactions, Chemical Reactions, Acids, Bases & Salts, The Periodic Table, Metals, Air & Water, Sulfur, Carbonates, Organic Chemistry.
Physics
Motion, Work Energy & Power, Thermal Physics, Properties of Waves, Electricity & Magnetism, Electric Circuits, Electromagnetic Effects, Atomic Physics
Assessment
The course is assessed through 3 examination papers. Each examination paper will assess all three sciences, Biology, Chemistry & Physics.
Students will sit either the 'core' or 'extended' pathway, depending on their progression throughout the course and their Year 11 mock examination results.
Multiple Choice Paper 1 (core) Paper 2 (ext), Longer Response Paper 3 (core) Paper 4 (ext), Alternative to Practical Paper 6.
Teacher Introduction
Questioning the world around us is a natural human instinct, and as such, gaining a deeper understanding of science and how it describes the forces and processes we observe in the natural world, helps students to develop a more mature and sophisticated appreciation of the planet we live on.
