Grade Nine Drama is an introductory performance-based course. The course provides opportunities for students to explore dramatic forms and techniques, using material from a wide range of sources and cultures. Students will use the elements of drama to examine situations and issues that are relevant to their lives. Students will create, perform, discuss, and analyse drama, and then reflect on the experiences to develop an understanding of themselves, the art form, and the world around them.
This course has been designed to introduce students to themes and art-making processes that are relevant to adolescents and the Ontario Grade 9 Visual Arts curriculum. Themes in project work will give students the opportunity to observe their environment and encourage self-expression.
The focus of this course is on studio work that incorporates the development of problem-solving as well as creative thinking skills and processes.
Students will learn a variety of art processes using different media and tools to create their studio work in this course. Art works from a variety of historical periods and different cultures will be studied and analysed, with a focus on Ancient Civilizations and Northwest Coast Indigenous Canadian Art.
Students will also learn of opportunities for future careers in the Visual Arts.

Music Theatre: For students who are interested in singing, acting, and dancing. This course culminates with our annual Music Theatre production. Prior instruction or experience is recommended but not necessary.
Repertoire Music Courses: Are strongly recommended for students enrolled in representative core music courses, as follows: AMI1O1/AMI1O6 + AMR1O1, AMS1O1/AMS1O6 + AMR1O3, AMT1O1 + AMR1O5
Repertoire classes are scheduled before and/or after the regular school day.
In this course, students will learn what makes an entrepreneur thrive and the skills required to succeed in today’s business environment. Students will begin to develop their own entrepreneurial mindset, and learn why it’s important to take initiative, adapt to change, find creative solutions, and understand the financial considerations of entrepreneurship. This hands-on course will use business software and applications to help students plan and develop their entrepreneurial ideas and learn how to present them to a target audience. Throughout the course, students will enhance their communications skills as well as develop and refine their project management skills, including goal setting, time management, and networking.
Learning Strategies is a course exclusive to students with an Individual Education Plan (IEP), that supports a student's academic growth and learning. The Learning Strategies course:
Is skill based and focuses on organizational skills, time management, communication skills and self advocacy.
Is designed to improve a student's achievement in all subjects by focusing on test-taking skills and study skills.
Is designed to improve a student's achievement by monitoring progress in each of their subjects through individual conferencing.
Provides identified students with a resource teacher to help with transition planning for each year in high school.
HPA is an accommodation for students who are competing at the provincial, national and/or international level. Students are permitted to take an asynchronous ONLINE course to allow participation in their athletics in P1 or 5 in a semester.

The grade 9 Exploring Family Studies course explores some of the fundamental challenges people face: how to meet develop basic skills such as cooking, how to learn about proper nutrition and wellness, how to relate to others, how to save and manage money, and how to become responsible members of society. You will explore adolescent development and will have opportunities to develop interpersonal, decision-making, and practical skills related to daily life.
Family Studies/Social Sciences and the Humanities courses help you to think critically and creatively, they teach you interpersonal skills, daily practical skills, they teach you to reason, and to ask the right questions. These courses can help provide you with the knowledge you need to understand the world you live in.
This hands-on course enables students to further explore the engineering design process and develop other technological knowledge and skills introduced in earlier grades. Students will design and safely create prototypes, products, and/or services, working with tools and technologies from various industries. As students develop their projects to address real-life problems, they will apply technological concepts such as precision measurement, as well as health and safety standards. Students will begin to explore job skills programs and education and training pathways, including skilled trades, that can lead to a variety of careers.
