Parents, please contact the mentor if your child will be away, or if you have any concerns about the student's learning or well-being.
A student's mentor class and mentor will usually remain the same in Grades 9 and 10, and in 11 and 12. New students will join our Grade 10 mentor classes. In Grades 11 and 12, new mentors are assigned and the groupings of students will also be new.
Your mentor will support transitions into and within High School. They will lead the PSE learning, except in G11 when this element will be facilitated in a separate class. Your mentor will also coach you to help set and meet goals. They are the person you meet with every day, and they will get to know you well. They are the first person to talk to about life in High School and any concerns you may have.
PSE learning
The PSE curriculum (outlined below) is designed to help you navigate some of the challenges of teenage life and prepare you for life beyond UWCSEA. We also strive to proactively develop factors associated with wellbeing, including a strong sense of identity and resilience. As part of this, your mentor will monitor your wellbeing via our Pulse Wellbeing Survey.
The units in G9 mirror those in G11 as we build our understanding of essential concepts such as inclusion, belonging, consent, and independence. Many units have been designed in conjunction with Focus Groups and Student Voice, and we encourage constructive feedback and student contributions.
