Suffolk New College boasts fantastic on-site sports facilities with our own sports centre, comprising of a 4-court badminton sports hall, and 2 activity rooms, including a dance studio for our students to access with little or no cost.
We also have eight 5-a-side football pitches and two 7-a-side pitches for students' usage during the day.
The Sports Centre is an easily accessible centre for both students and the community, and is open 7 days a week. Our college students have full usage during the day and can access the sports hall, table-tennis rooms, and football pitches.
Sports centre staff work to create a student environment with no barriers to taking part in activities whilst studying at the college.
We run the following opportunities for all students to access:
Students Sports card: Suffolk New College offers a sports card for just £5 per academic year. This card gives FREE access to all our sports facilities for the academic year, up to the 31st July. The card allows you to pre-book most activities including the football pitches, badminton courts, table-tennis rooms, basketball court, and the dance studio, 7 days in advance.
The football pitches are handed over to Goals in the evenings, after 5pm and during term time. Use of the pitches at this time is not included in your membership as well as the school holidays. Weekend access is allowed but you MUST pre book the pitch at least 24 hours beforehand, with the sports centre staff, otherwise you will have to pay an entry fee to Goals soccer centre.
Just visit the Sports Centre to purchase this card at the front reception.
Casual Sports: Lunchtime activities in the sports hall can include anything from basketball to dodgeball and table-tennis in the upstairs rooms, to football on the outside pitches. The activities you can access during the day include table-tennis, dodgeball, tennis, volleyball and football. Just ask the staff for more information as this is also a teaching area so access will be restricted at certain times.
Competitive Sports: The college play in the Association of Colleges (AoC) leagues and tournaments including football, futsal basketball, rugby 7's, badminton and netball. We also participate in individual competitions such as squash, running, sailing, tennis, table-tennis, golf, fitness trainer competition, Volleyball and athletics. Speak to a member of the sports team if you are interested in any of these activities. The football studies course has a team in the colleges league, more information on this can be found on the college website.
Football Activators: In partnership with Suffolk FA, we are looking for 2 students to become college Football Activators to promote and run football sessions for students, including Futsal, Girls Only and 5-a- Side tournaments. The students will be supported in this project and will be a great experience to put on your CV. The activators will run their own budget of £1500 and will have the opportunity to gain a Level 1 Football Coaching qualification.
For any further information please email the sports centre staff on sportscentre@suffolk.ac.uk and a member of staff will get back to you.
