Part of your study at Suffolk New College will need to be done independently using online technology. This is called Blended Learning, where you receive a blend of face to face and online lessons.
Your timetable will show when you should be in college and when you have blended learning activity. Some of this will take place in real time - through on-line meetings in Google Meet or Teams; other times you may be able to complete tasks on-line at a time that suits you. Your teachers will clearly explain what is expected of you each week.
Please refer to the following guides for more details about blended learning:
Check your college email accounts regularly –this includes your college email account and Gmail account
You will receive instructions from your tutors as to what work you should be doing, how to access resources, and when it needs to be completed by.
The tutor will also let you know when they are available for support, and how you can communicate with them should you need any further guidance or support.
You should login to the different online places which you usually access on your study programme for updates. For example, Google Drive, Padlet.
It is very important that you do engage in the learning activities set for you as your tutors will be monitoring your engagement daily and recording where you have not done this.
Try and stick to the hours timetabled for on-line activity in order to ensure you are giving enough attention to the various aspects of your study programme. For example if your on-line lessons are on a Wednesday afternoon - allocate this time to complete them. Some of this learning will be in real time - and require you to log on to a platform to take part in discussions or activities.
However, we do recognise that there may be times that you need to be flexible with the work you do. In which case, you may need to adapt your day slightly to stay on track. For example, if you usually have on-line lessons in the morning, but cannot access the technology you need until the afternoon, you would work on some activities which do not require technology in the morning, and instead catch up with the online activities in the afternoon - by following the session recording. Make sure you let your tutor know if this is the case.
Contact your tutor using via the college email system, or speak to them as soon as you can when you are next in College. Try and work on a different activity in the meantime whilst your query is being responded to.
As you work through the activities set by your tutor, make a note of any questions you would like to ask your tutor. It may be the case that some of your fellow students have come across the same challenges, so make use of the various online forums your tutor may have already setup in order help each-other where possible. Your tutor will be reviewing your progress on a regular basis, and will update resources and activities as appropriate.
Your progress tutors will still be delivering PD as per your timetable in college. Your PD sessions will be about topics that are important to you both in and outside of college.
Let your tutor know you are unwell and the tutor will work with you to help catch up when you are better.

It is very important that your young person does engage in the learning activities set for them, as tutors will be monitoring their engagement daily and recording where they have not done completed learning activities.
Your young person should try and follow the timetable for remote learning in order to ensure they are giving enough attention to the various aspects of their study programme. Approximately 25% of their learning will be carried out remotely. This work supports the work they will be doing on college, it is therefore important that they complete these tasks so that they don't fall behind. Some of this learning will be in real time - and will require them to log on to a meeting platform and take part on activities and discussions with their tutors and peers.
However, we do recognise that they may need to be flexible with the work they do, for instance, if they are sharing a device with siblings or a parent. They should access the materials that will have been recorded for them and inform their tutor of this, so they are aware of your young persons circumstances.
Contact their tutor via the college email system – their tutor will get back to them as soon as possible within working hours. Or speak to their tutor next time they are in college.
